Back when I first saw this I remember thinking it was likely my favorite of Wes Anderson's movies. Now, 13 years later, having gone through a period of full on Anderson burnout, and then a bit of recovery from that, I still think this one is note perfect.
It's vibrant and ridiculous, but that feels only natural amongst this place and these characters. And the themes and character growth are really grounded and meaningful despite all the zaniness.
So yeah, in reflection, I think pound-for-pound this remains Wes Anderson's best.
