The Mark of Zorro

The Mark of Zorro
Around 1820 the son of a California nobleman comes home from Spain to find his native land under a villainous dictatorship. On the one hand he plays the useless fop, while on the other he is the masked avenger Zorro.

The only actor to rival Guy Williams and Antonio Banderas, Tyrone Power brings a more angry, thirsty-for-justice ora to the character. It works. Anyone who has read the Curse of Capistrano will recognize a lot from this movie.
The sleeper draw is actually its secondary villain. Basil Rathbone showcases his immense mastery of the blade whenever given the opportunity--and he is often given it here. He might actually be at his best--though that's a hard choice to make between this, Robin Hood, and the Court Jester.
I recommend the Mark of Zorro to anyone who likes good swordplay, or the character of Zorro! Its an all-time great swashbuckler, and you will find it fun to revisit every few years.
