Despite a standout performance by the dog—easily the film’s most compelling presence—Good Boy struggles to leave a lasting impression. The atmosphere occasionally dips into eerie territory, with moments that hint at a deeper horror lurking beneath the surface. Unfortunately, the story itself feels flat and uninspired, centering on Todd’s illness and his metaphysical showdown with death (or its angelic proxy), which lacks emotional resonance and narrative momentum.
The film might have fared better had it leaned into the supernatural potential of its setting—ghosts, demons, or haunted relics could have injected much-needed intrigue. Instead, it delivers a bleak, depressive experience that’s hard to shake off, though not in a good way. It’s the kind of movie you watch once and hope to forget.
