The story of the controversial South African band Die Antwoord. Tracing them from their humble beginnings to global phenomenon. Like their music the documentary is shocking, provocative, highly creative and strangely funny.

Just saw ZEF: The Story of Die Antwoord, and wow, it’s a wild ride. It dives deep into who Ninja and Yo-Landi really are, not just the freaky, over-the-top stage versions. The doc is super visual (Roger Ballen’s art direction is everywhere), blending home videos, tour footage, and raw family moments, especially with their daughter narrating. On the plus side: tons of rare footage, a real emotional core around their family, and it doesn’t shy away from the weirdness. But some, like me, might feel it glosses over darker parts Overall: provocative, visually intense, and oddly human, must-watch if you’re into Die Antwoord or just curious about the “zef” culture.
