A tough sequel to rate.
The beginning feels noticeably weaker — the calm, mysterious tone of the first film is almost completely gone in the first half.
Right from the opening scene, it’s loud and action-heavy, a big shift from The Silence of the Lambs.
Thankfully, it starts to find its footing later on, and by the end, the atmosphere comes much closer to what made the original so gripping.
It’s not a bad film by any means, but overall it doesn’t quite reach the same level as its predecessor.
Anthony Hopkins is, as always, phenomenal — radiating the same chilling calm and control that define Hannibal.
The recasting of Starling actually works well, and since the story takes place years later, her development feels believable and fitting.
