"Oddity" starts off with promise, set in a unique house that blends an old barn with modern aspects, creating an intriguing atmosphere. The hand-carved wooden golem creature adds to the tension, looming ominously. However, the film quickly becomes predictable, with me guessing the true antagonist early on, leaving little room for suspense or surprise. The main protagonist, played by Carolyn Bracken, delivers a strong performance, reminiscent of Gwendoline Christie. Tadgh Murphy, portraying Olin Ball, also stands out with a creepy and well-developed character arc. Despite these highlights, the film's predictability and shift towards a lackluster whodunit overshadow its potential for spookiness and weirdness. Overall, "Oddity" leaves much to be desired in the scares department, with only a few standout moments. This film will be popular with people who like The Witch (2015), The Hole in the Ground (2019), The Ritual (2017), and The Wicker Man (1973), for their folk horror elements, creepy settings, and supernatural themes.
