The intimate portrait of a woman who returns home to care for her dying mother. A delicate and nuanced story of a fractured family, the story explores universal themes of abandonment, aging, acceptance and redemption.

A complex drama of familial resentment and forgiveness layered on top of a moving trans experience story. Trace Lysette’s captivating performance as Monica is matched only by Patricia Clarkson’s portrayal of her (once) estranged mother who ailing and nearing the end of her life. There’s so much nuance in every conversation and interaction, I just really loved how this all quietly unfurled. I did not really care for the somewhat abrupt ending. Or maybe I was just missing the significant of the moment. Really good film, though.
