The premise is so wild but unfortunately the movie didn’t succeed in doing anything interesting with it. Emilia’s switching between a soft and terrifying personality throughout was the only engaging part of the film. She is a nuanced character but I feel like the constant showcasing of her hypocrisy eventually caricatured her and made her development way less interesting. Rita and Jessi are boring characters that don’t seem to have any agency of their own. For a musical, I expect way more visual style but instead the movie just looks dull with a very bland colour tone. Some of the songs felt unneeded, others were decent, but none made any lasting impact on me or was rememberable (language barrier probably contributed to this too). I think Emilia should’ve been thrust into more challenging situations that forced her to deal with her previous life in crime, there just didn’t seem to be any big or riveting plot in the second half. A musical with a premise like this had lots of potential but ended up being quite mediocre and it took me to a few days to finish it because nothing about it was captivating.
