This one was unforgettable from the moment the lights dimmed. Seeing Labyrinth in the cinema was like stepping into a dream stitched together by Jim Henson, George Lucas and David Bowie. The puppetry was alive, the sets surreal and the soundtrack pulsed with Bowie’s otherworldly charm. It wasn’t just a movie, it was a portal. The labyrinth was a living puzzle, full of talking worms, shifting staircases and creatures that felt pulled from a child’s fevered imagination. It played like Alice in Wonderland meets Escher, with a dose of glam rock and Muppet mischief. Watching it on TV later brought comfort. Owning it on DVD meant you could revisit the magic anytime. But nothing quite matched that first cinematic experience, when the Goblin King appeared in full surround sound and the Fireys danced across the screen in glorious chaos. It’s weird, whimsical and deeply personal. A coming of age tale wrapped in fantasy, where growing up means learning to let go and realizing that sometimes, the monsters are the ones who love you most.
