Dogville
Amerika in den 30er Jahren zur Zeit der großen Depression. Auf der Flucht vor ihren Verfolgern landet Grace in der abgeschiedenen Kleinstadt Dogville in den Rocky Mountains. Der Gemeindesprecher Tom setzt sich für die junge Frau ein. Unter der Bedingung, dass sie sich dem Gemeinschaftsleben anpasst und den Bewohnern bei der Arbeit zur Hand geht, darf sie zunächst für eine Probezeit von zwei Wochen bleiben. Mit Beharrlichkeit und Güte gelingt es Grace, das Vertrauen der braven Bürger zu gewinnen. Als jedoch ein Sheriff einen Steckbrief mit ihrem Konterfei an der Dorfkirche anschlägt, kippt die Stimmung. Für die schöne Fremde beginnt ein Martyrium, an deren Ende sie als jedermanns Sklavin an der Kette gehalten wird. Aber Grace hütet ein Geheimnis und nimmt schließlich blutige Rache...

The Day The Stage Stood Still
Great psychological study on power dynamics and our reactions to them
Essentially a stage play adaptation of a film, filmed. Only, the original film is only is Lars’ mind. Brilliantly simple idea yet incredibly unique and experimental with its barebones technique: the lack of background (and even foreground at times) and (obviously) dubbed sound design stuck out to me from the wildly bold direction. It’s almost like an overproduced staging of a read-through lmao
Ridiculous cast and very fitting. I haven’t seen Zeljko Ivanek in anything (new or old) in a while since I haven’t watched Law & Order since I got out of the hospital lmfao
Love the “anti-American” and anti-parasite / anti-capitalist themes. Definitely resonates with the growing anti-ICE sentiment!
