Vincent Chase is a young, hot, up-and-coming actor living in Hollywood. Tonight, he must attend the opening of his latest movie "Head On," but first he and his three best friends from back home have lunch and discuss their upcoming 10-year high school reunion.

This was a fairly solid pilot episode, although I'm having difficulty connecting to most of the characters. It seems all but one of them are psychologically stuck in high school. Possibly the most compelling aspect of the show so far is that it is objectively representative of a specific time and place, and largely resembles what life can be like in Hollywood for young [male] entertainers (as per Mark Wahlberg's real-life commentary). The chemistry between the "entourage" is well acted, although I find myself noticing the edits to force scenes into a certain pacing or dynamic, so that's surprisingly not very well done for an HBO series. The main character doesn't strike me as a real representation of actors. He's essentially clueless. It seems like he's just a random dude who got picked up by a modelling agency at a shopping mall. I just don't find him believable at all. His washed up half-brother is more believable as a one-hit has-been. For all the social commentary I've heard that the show is misogynistic and homophobic, there really wasn't much of any of that in this pilot. The sole reason I want to watch the next episode is to follow Eric's story. I really don't care about any of the other characters at all.
