This was a blast. Loved the gritty 70’s aesthetic, playing with aspect ratios, and the gruesome and bloody second half. Really loved Mia Goth and Brittany Snow as well as Jenna Ortega here. It’s surface level fun as a porny and horny horror slasher, but there’s definitely more going on under the skin. With commentary on sexuality and desire, age and beauty, it will be really interesting to see what the prequel Pearl has in store. I mean, c’mon. Pearl just wants a little death in her life, right? Really impressed by this. May have to check out more of Ti West’s work as I think this was my introduction to anything he’s directed.
