Le cercle rouge

Le Cercle Rouge
When French criminal Corey gets released from prison, he resolves to never return. He is quickly pulled back into the underworld, however, after a chance encounter with escaped murderer Vogel. Along with former policeman and current alcoholic Jansen, they plot an intricate jewel heist. All the while, quirky Police Commissioner Mattei, who was the one to lose custody of Vogel, is determined to find him.

Not sure why this is rated so high. The direction and cinematography is decent but I found everything else to be quite boring. The beginning is engaging but I couldn’t find myself connecting to any of the characters, there’s barely any dialogue interactions between them and even then it all feels so toned down and scripted. The plot connections and ending feels very contrived, like all the police had to do was focus purely on Santi to reap the rewards which seemed lame to me. The pacing sucks and doesn’t feel worth sticking through. The heist scene is just alright. It also had some very amateurish scene transition editing. Maybe back then this movie would have seemed new and riveting, I can see the appeal of Corey being this cool stoic criminal and a heist being thrilling but I don’t think it holds up entertainment wise today.
