I really loved Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher. His performance combined with the look of the character was easily my favorite part of the film. Would have loved if he had been given even more screen time. As for the rest of the film, it’s definitely quite funny. I love Taika Waititi’s comedic sensibilities, however, the humor here pushed the comedic tone a bit too far. Much of the humor I would characterize as being silly or goofy as opposed to merely being funny. The comedic tone makes it hard to feel like there are actual stakes here. Combine that with MCU’s inability to truly kill any characters and there are truly no reason to fear any kind of death. I think there are at least 5 characters who die, or have an apparent death, or are dealt a mortal wound, who find a way back to some form of living by the end. It is absolutely my least favorite movie trope. All that being said, it was a good time at the theater. The visuals are rather fun to look at, and it’s great to see Natalie Portman get a meatier (mightier perhaps) role this time around.  And I definitely laughed quite a lot. Even though I don’t think those laughs serve the story or the greater MCU very well, I can’t deny that it made this an enjoyable watch.  I mean, I think I laughed audibly at the goats…..every…..single……time.
