⭐⭐⭐⭐ (out of 5) Are You Afraid of the Dark? – Gather ‘round the fire once more; the Midnight Society still has chills to spare.
“Are You Afraid of the Dark?” resurrects the spirit of ‘90s anthology horror with a modern polish and a gentler touch. Each season tells a self-contained story through the lens of a new Midnight Society, blending supernatural scares with that sweet spot between spooky and safe — where teenagers face monsters both real and metaphorical.
The show leans into classic campfire storytelling, and yes — it channels that Creepshow energy you remembered, though it swaps gore and grotesque for atmosphere and imagination. It’s less about sleepless nights and more about goosebumps, nostalgia, and that delicious feeling of daring yourself not to look away.
Made clearly for a younger audience, it never underestimates them; the writing is sharp, the visuals are stylish, and the scares — while lighter — still earn their place. Think Creepshow with a bedtime curfew, or Stranger Things if the cast were still figuring out algebra.
It’s the perfect kind of horror for when you want to be spooked but still sleep soundly afterward — the sort of series that reminds you that sometimes, the best scares come not from monsters, but from stories whispered in the dark.
