- Mile End Kicks
Spoke directly to my indie emo rock girly who read boy band fan fiction at night and attended concerts like a sport. Peak 2011 Tumblr era — Tom’s bangs, obnoxious necklaces, big black glasses. I felt like I was watching my past self on screen. Barbie Ferreira plays Grace with such truth and earned growth. The concert scenes felt visceral and alive, and the Alanis Morissette soundtrack was perfect. It tackles female oppression in male-dominated spaces — specifically music journalism — in a way that still feels relevant today. The band love triangle took the cake, I fell for Archie instantly, and I hated Chevy in exactly the right way. This is a story about a girl finding her way in a world that keeps trying to shut her out — and Chandler Levack nailed it. Four stars. Already one of my favourite films of the year.Mile End Kicks - PONIES
I LOVED this!!! The chemistry between Emilia and Haley was amazing. They were super funny and sweet. I was obsessed with Haley’s wardrobe. The 70s style cinematography was great, as well as the soundtrack! I hope this gets a season 2, it was a fun twist to the normal cop shows. Woman are COOL!PONIES - We Bury the Dead
We bury the dead a movie about zombies with unfinished business? This film surprised me as I went into it thinking it’s just another zombie film. I would be incorrect! I want to take a second to admire Daisy Ridley‘s career. I love that she has been putting efforts into smaller indie films like this one after Star Wars shedding light on films like this that need to be seen. I really did enjoy we bury the dead. I wish we had more of it. It was a short hour and a half film. The cinematography was amazing. I really loved the wide shots of the places they traveled too. The deeper meaning behind the zombies waking up if they had unfinished business. I have to give flowers to the makeup department because the zombie special effects makeup was incredible. It creeped me out in the best way. I watched this movie while eating breakfast and I think that was not a smart idea.We Bury the Dead - Kiss of the Spider Woman
Diego Luna can sing and dance. He’s not just a Star Wars man. I’m loving this! I’ve been very excited for this because I love movie musicals and Bill Condon who has directed some incredible things, including the twilight saga. This role was perfect for J Lo - lots of singing and dancing, and she can belt a note. The music wasn’t super memorable, but the sequences were fun and colorful to watch. Tonatiuh and Diego are the stars to me. One line that will stay with me is Valentine saying “I hate musicals” and Melina saying “I pity you.” Because I strongly agree - musicals are so fun and La La Land is one of my favorites. The jumping back-and-forth between colorful scenes and dark prisoner scenes gave me whiplash, but I still really enjoyed it. You need to see this on a big screen! If you love movie musicals, this is for you! Thank you, pixel scene media and kiss of the spider woman team for the screener!“Kiss of the Spider Woman
