The series starts with a succession crisis in the kingdom of Fir. Prince Kamaro and Princess Karen, members of rival royal houses, are both claiming the throne. It is decided that whoever finds the mystic Firebird first will become the new and rightful monarch. The Firebird is time-traveling to the past. Karen time-travels back to the year 1981 to ask for the help of her ancestors Wataru Toki and Koyomu Himekuri in locating the Firebird.
