- Ecosystem Services 101 with Hank
F4Ecosystem Services 101 with HankThis week's theme is TEACHING! Ecology is a fascinating and complicated science. But if you mix it with the fascinating and complicated science of economics, you end up giving value to the things our world does for us. Those things, in ecological lingo, are "ecosystem services" and you can actually put price tags on them. That's what I want to teach John about today. - RIP JD Salinger
F12RIP JD SalingerIn which John reads from the J. D. Salinger novel The Catcher in the Rye in tribute to Salinger, who died today at the age of 91. Having done so, I now immediately return to paternity leave. Like all novelists who write about teenagers, I owe an immense debt to Salinger--not only because of Holden Caulfield but also because of the hauntingly beautiful portraits of the Glass family. Thank you all for your kind wishes for young Henry, who is made of awesome. - Truth or Fail: SUPERBOWL
F18Truth or Fail: SUPERBOWLLike it or not....Football is a big freaking deal in American. I know not all of you are Americans, so this isn't going to be geographically fair. Also...a lot of you are nerds, like me, so you probably don't know a lot of football trivia. But getting ready for the Superbowl tomorrow, it'd probably be good to have a few fascinating facts in your back pocket...so I hope you enjoy this truth or fail. - Hypocrisy: All They Want is Money
F19Hypocrisy: All They Want is MoneyI just get a little ticked off when Coca Cola or Dove or any other big company pretends to care about something besides making lots of money. They don't care...they only attempt to adopt your values in order to get you to buy things. Brands are lame, corporations have no conscience, this is just how it is. - Google Search Stories: Harry Potter
F21Google Search Stories: Harry PotterIn which we find out what Harry Potter Google'd throughout his career at Hogwarts and beyond. Thanks to Melissa Anelli (author of Harry, A History) for all her wonderful help with this. We had a very entertaining skype brainstorm. - Henry's Pee and My Gut
F24Henry's Pee and My GutIn which John discusses the much-vaunted but generally unsuccessful strategy of "going with your gut" while playing with his My Little Pony. He also discusses a Henry pee fountain and a few other things. Long live the brain! Oy! The daisy with one petal removed is CLEARLY a reference to "Looking for Alaska," and I just didn't notice it until nerdfighters pointed it out in comments. Sorry! (But, man, I love that My Little Pony.) - TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND!!
F25TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND!!Thanks everyone for being so awesome...my neck is feeling better already, so no worries! So we've got 200,000 subscribers. I wanted to do a geddan dance for you, but I couldn't because my neck hurts and so I can't contort. But hopefully this will be just as good. Thank you all so much, I hope we continue to grow, but I'm not sure if there are any more amazing awesome nerdfighters in the world. I guess there's always more, thank you all so much. - The Marriage Ref SUCKS
F28The Marriage Ref SUCKSIn which John attacks the relentlessly bad new show The Marriage Ref, lambastes the president of NBC Jeff Zucker for his comments about YouTube and user-generated content, becomes furious while discussing the pre-empting of the closing ceremonies of the winter Olympics, and shares with you his husky voice. - New Tour! New Book! (Remember Books?) Your Q's A'ed!
F32New Tour! New Book! (Remember Books?) Your Q's A'ed!In which John discusses Will Grayson, Will Grayson, the book he wrote with David Levithan (which comes out on April 6th), and also answers real questions from real nerdfighters about romance, shaving, and vidcon. - Foreign John Green Books and the Ultimate Concern
F36Foreign John Green Books and the Ultimate ConcernIn which John Green discusses a few of the foreign editions of his novels Looking for Alaska, An Abundance of Katherines, and Paper Towns, all while discussing the idea of an ultimate concern, including the question of whether and how it is possible to live by the utilitarian values advocated for by many nerdfighters. And there is a brief mention of boobs. - Top 10 Freaking Amazing Explosions
F39Top 10 Freaking Amazing ExplosionsIn which Hank counts down the top ten most amazing, awe-inspiring and destructive explosions of all time. Including accidental Explosions, intentional non-military explosions, and fission and fusion bombs. Of course, the largest man-made explosion of all time, the Tsar Bomb, has nothing on mother nature in the end. - Quotations (And Holden Hats)
F40Quotations (And Holden Hats)In which John Green, wearing an actual replica of the hat worn by fictional character Holden Caulfield, discusses quotations, and the decontextualizing of a quote from his novel "An Abundance of Katherines." Also there is a brief discussion of fishing boat proceeds. And frenching the llama. - Having a bad day on Chat Roulette
F41Having a bad day on Chat RouletteThis song, obviously, is about chat roulette, and how, when people can instantly make you disappear in the hopes of finding someone even slightly more interesting than you are, it can make you feel quite sad. Of course, it's a funny song, but Chat Roulette does make me feel kind of bad for the world. Also, DON'T GO ON CHAT ROULETTE IF YOU ARE NOT OK WITH SEEING NAKED DUDES! Because most of chat roulette is naked dudes. - Fun is Important. Being Serious Isn't
F47Fun is Important. Being Serious Isn'tThis video is partially in response to the Debacle of the streamy awards. I think that they thought that, just because online video is important, it had to be serious...and then I think everyone rebelled against that...which they rightly should have. If we have the choice between fun and serious...why would we ever choose serious? - The Greek Debt Crisis Explained in Four Minutes
F54The Greek Debt Crisis Explained in Four MinutesIn which John explains the Greek debt crisis, which has pushed the Greek government close to defaulting on its loans, the reasons why the Euro zone and the IMF are desperately trying to bail Greece out, and what the rising cost of sovereign debt means for the massive budget deficits throughout the developed world. - HANKO DE MAYO!!!!11!!
F56HANKO DE MAYO!!!!11!!Songs in this video: Molly Lewis's "My Hope" http://bit.ly/1bh4Eg Hank Green's "Nerdfighteria island" http://bit.ly/1Lpot and Mike Lombardo's "You Should Know," which he wrote for Hank's birthday http://bit.ly/aNbIX3 All artists are on DFTBA Records, the artist-driven record label cofounded by Hank. Support them and their awesome at http://www.dftba.com Today is the 30th birthday of noted vlogbrother and environmentalist Hank Green. To celebrate, nerdfighters from around the world planted more than TEN THOUSAND plants and trees in his honor. Also, we made a corndog shirt. Thanks, Hank, for being so great, and thanks, nerdfighteria, for never forgetting to be awesome. - How to Live Forever
F57How to Live ForeverIn which Hank confronts the fact that he is getting older and, instead of accepting it, talks about ten different ways that people are proposing to extend life, possibly indefinitely. Because immortality and eternal youth are so much more appealing than reality, which is that we all get old and DIE!!! - Advice on Dumb Boyfriends, Going to College, and More
F58Advice on Dumb Boyfriends, Going to College, and MoreIn which John answers gives advice to real nerdfighters on the topic of dumb boyfriends who say they don't like smart girls, leaving home to go to college, boys who maybe like you, dating your friends, how to conduct yourself during a job interview, catching Justin Bieber fever, and how the Mountain Goats can cure you. - Advice on First Kisses, Stalkers, College Majors, and More
F60Advice on First Kisses, Stalkers, College Majors, and MoreIn which John Green dispenses advice on first kisses, stalkers, college majors, pet rats, pronouns, and more. In re. stalking: Some experts argue that restraining orders are ineffective (they are particularly ineffective when laxly enforced) and in fact can be counterproductive. Regardless, experts agree to tell stalkers unambiguously NO and then cease all communication forever. - Adorable Baby Is Adorable
F62Adorable Baby Is AdorableIn which John Green sings a lullaby of his own devising about all the things he will buy his baby in the event a mockingbird fails to sing. These things include a quilt, the sultanate of Oman, a diamond ring, and polka dots, among many others. Stay tuned at the end for some serious cuteness. - How to Make a Website in Four Minutes
F63How to Make a Website in Four MinutesHaven't you ever wanted a nice shiny website at a dot com domain? But you didn't want to pay someone to do it, and figured it was too complicated? Well, that changes now! Hank Green, who has been a professional web developer for almost 10 years, is letting out some secrets. It's really easy to get a domain, web hosting, and a working web site in under four minutes of work. Just follow his simple instructions, and you'll be set by the end of the day. - How to Be Green Without Being a Prick
F65How to Be Green Without Being a PrickThere are far too many ways to be green, in the smallest and biggest ways for anyone to tell you how to do it. The only way is to understand the problems that we face so you can make intelligent decisions for yourself, be informative to your friends, and help promote and create the solutions that will truly allow this world to become sustainable. - How To Do Everything
F66How To Do EverythingIn which john explains how to tie a tie, how to kiss, how to lose weight fast, how to get pregnant, how to solve a rubix cube (SIC), how to get a girl to like you, how to make it in America, how to train your dragon, how to make a web site, and how to write your resume. In three minutes and fifteen seconds. - Farmville!!!!! A Song
F67Farmville!!!!! A SongIn which Hank sings a song about Farmville. Because there aren't enough songs about Farmville. Thanks to Abbey for the cover art farm, thanks to Shmed for the drumming and bass guitar and production, as always. Thanks the Zynga for creating such a horribly addictive game. And thanks to everyone who used the Photomatron to help make this video awesome. - The Case of the Poopy Nintendo
F68The Case of the Poopy NintendoIn which the saga of Red Green, a long-dead miniature dachshund who may or may not have pooped in my Nintendo Entertainment System 20 years ago, continues. But this time, there are scientific experiments strongly pointing toward a Hankish involvement. - Viacom PWNED on Piracy
F70Viacom PWNED on PiracyIn which John Green examines the complicated relationship between Viacom and piracy: Viacom has filed a lawsuit against YouTube seeking more than a billion dollars in damages for the copyright infringement that was rife in the early days of YouTube. But John proves that spike.com, which is owned by Viacom, has been placing ads against content that doesn't belong to them for years, including Jonathan Coulton's brilliant music video "Flickr." - Be The Change
F73Be The ChangeThe Trevor Project is the leading national organization focused on crisis and suicide prevention efforts among Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning youth. In the midst of National LGBTQ Pride Month, The Trevor Project is launching a new video contest called BE THE CHANGE. To enter, all you have to do is record a video explaining how you, or you and your friends, are working hard to BE THE CHANGE as a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning or allied youth and submit it to memelabs.com/thetrevorproject - GOOOOOOOL!!!!
F77GOOOOOOOL!!!!In which Hank talks about winning, and why it's important, and what it actually is. Because winning, I don't think, means what we think it means. And despite the fact that, in the end, we all lose, the frustration and pain of losing is extremely important to humanity, and also to the feeling of win. AND YOUTUBE WON VIACOM'S CRAP LAWSUIT AGAINST THEM!!! Hoorayyy!!! Oh, and USA beat Algeria or something. - Book Nerd PARADISE
F78Book Nerd PARADISEIn which John attends the 2010 American Library Association's Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. It's the biggest gathering of librarians and other library lovers in the country, and it's a weekend-long celebration of books, nerdiness, literature, and libraries. - Stabbed in the Brain: Phineas Gage
F79Stabbed in the Brain: Phineas GageThe Curious Case of Phineas Gage. A railway worker in the 1800s, a iron rod passed through his head, and he recovered almost fully in a matter of months. I just wanted to tell you the story, no analysis or anything...it's just amazing, take what you want from it. - With Esther
F82With EstherIn which John visits with Esther, Katie, Maddie, Lindsay, Arka, Teryn, and Abby--and then gets to thinking about the pure unadulterated wonderfulness of nerdfighteria as embodied by Esther and then encourages you all to vote for the Harry Potter Alliance to win 250,000, with which they will change the world. - Hank's Life in a Day
F89Hank's Life in a DayIn which Hank shows you his Saturday, which turned out to be a very busy day filled with friends, babies, water slides, juggling, Doritos, eggs, singing, dogs, and, yeah, other stuff. All because I wanted to be a part of the http://www.youtube.com/lifeinaday project. - Umbrellas Amuse Me: Observations from One Day in Munich
F90Umbrellas Amuse Me: Observations from One Day in MunichIn which John describes what he did on July 24, 2010, the day of Youtube's Life In a Day project. He spent most of the day walking around Munich, Germany trying to find a watch for his wife and a present for his son, but there were side trips to bookstores, churches, and a women's soccer game. The day ended with an extraordinarily awesome concert. The book featured in this video is ISHMAEL AND THE RETURN OF THE DUGONGS by Michael Gerard Bauer. Buy the (HILARIOUS!) first book in the series, DON'T CALL ME ISHMAEL: http://amzn.to/dtsNl8 The band playing the song is Gone Fishin', and most of them are seriously German doctors. - Demon Four Year Old
F91Demon Four Year OldIn which Hank mostly talks about is crazy-pants nephew, but also about cultural vs. genetic evolution, and the fact that we all sometimes forget that we are not normal, and that most people are not like us, but that does not mean that we can't love and support each other. - Family, Love and BISON ATTACKS!
F93Family, Love and BISON ATTACKS!Yes, there is actually some footage of a guy being attacked by a bison in this video because we musn't forget that approaching wildlife is dangerous. My family is still in town and we're still on semi-vacation having a good time with them. - Looking for Alaska at My High School
F94Looking for Alaska at My High SchoolIn which John Green returns to his high school alma mater, Indian Springs School, to investigate its connections to his first novel, Looking for Alaska. (LfA is set at a fictional school called Culver Creek, but the physical place is very similar to Indian Springs.) Also, he gets stung by a bee. - Lust and Folly in London and Edinburgh
F98Lust and Folly in London and EdinburghIn which John Green discusses his trip to the United Kingdom to support his novel, Paper Towns, which has just been published there. Also he talks about Isaac Newton, Snooki, lust for objects, great music, nerdfighting, unfinished monuments, and the right to choose what we care about. Thanks to everyone who gathered in London and Edinburgh. I can't wait to come back to the UK! - The Fox Hat IS REAL, but Are Zombies People?
F100The Fox Hat IS REAL, but Are Zombies People? In which John does an old-fashioned parts video, discussing his fox hat (a detail from Looking for Alaska), his newly re-cataloged home library, the relationship between zombies and people, a crowdsourced book project called the guide to nerdfighting, the new vlogbrothers video series Thoughts from Places, and the continuing amazingness of the In Your Pants joke. (If you add In Your Pants to the end of book titles, many of those book titles become much funnier.) - Is Obama a Muslim? Examine the Evidence!
F101Is Obama a Muslim? Examine the Evidence! In which John Green examines the question of whether President Barack Obama is a Muslim in the wake of a recent opinion poll showing that more than one fifth of Americans believe Obama is a Muslim. Along the way, the five pillars of Islam are discussed: belief in the unity of God and the prophethood of Muhammad (shahada), prayer (salat), alms-giving (zakat), fasting (sawm), and pilgrimage (hajj). Thanks to Valerie, Ryan, Sierra, Esther, and Geri for research assistance is compiling this video. - Make-up Tutorial: Katniss Everdeen Look
F102Make-up Tutorial: Katniss Everdeen LookIn which Hank is punished, and thus applys makeup in an attempt to lock down Katniss Everdeen's style at the opening ceremonies of the 74th Hunger Games. And, of course, he's screws up so much that Cinna would probably kill him for butchering it so bad. - FRENCH THE LLAMA! John is 33!
F103FRENCH THE LLAMA! John is 33!Thank you to everyone who sent in pictures and videos, through the photomatron or otherwise. Sorry I wasn't able to get the videos incorporated into this...it was too long...but I have a plan. Happy Birthday John! We think you're AWESOME! - Thoughts from Places: The Centennial Valley
F105Thoughts from Places: The Centennial ValleyIn which Hank thinks a lot about being in the middle of nowhere, and what that means, and how every place is equally in it's placeness. He also shows off his sprained ankle, a broken down barn, a very cute calf and his tire-changing skills. - I HATE PENNIES!!!! (Also Nickels.)
F108I HATE PENNIES!!!! (Also Nickels.)In which John Green discusses his virulent hatred for pennies and nickels, two utterly irrelevant coins that inexplicably remain money in the United States of America. It costs more than 1.7 cents to make a 1 cent penny coin in the US; nickels are even more ridiculous, costing more than nine cents to produce. UPDATE: Those statistics are out of date. In 2009, it cost 1.6 cents to make a penny and 6.1 cents to make a nickel; the US Mint lost 22 million on penny and nickel production, not the 70 million they lost in 2008. (This is because the recession has made zinc and nickel cheaper.) Thank to youtuber http://www.youtube.com/sivartis for the correction. - Where are the Space Aliens?!
F109Where are the Space Aliens?!In which Hank takes on the Fermi Paradox. Why, if there are so many stars in our galaxy, have we not heard from inhabitants of other galaxies. Hank honestly believes that it is because we're stupid to think that civilizations communicate the way we do, think the way we do, or act the way we do. And if they do act in any of those ways, they probably won't do it for very long, because we probably won't do it for very long either. - Thoughts from Places: YouTube HQ
F111Thoughts from Places: YouTube HQIn which Hank visits YouTube's physical location...or does he? Thanks to Rick and Margaret for showing me around, and all of everyone else for not getting too creeped out at me waving my camera around. YouTube HQ was great to see, but mostly it was a bunch of people working hard to make YouTube better. Which, I guess, if I'd thought about it, is what I should've expected. And San Francisco is BEAUTIFUL! So awesome...people who live here...I am extremely jealous! And thanks to Mitch for putting The Katherine and I up in Pacific Heights. - Positive Pranking: The TP Edition
F112Positive Pranking: The TP EditionAmy KR's Positive Pranking: http://bit.ly/9NwPJ6 John builds upon an idea by the brilliant Amy Krouse Rosenthal to turn pranks into vehicles for worldsuck reduction. In this video, he TPs houses around his hometown of Indianapolis. (TP, in this instance, stands for Tootsie Pop.) Enjoy your tootsie pops, Indy. My note: Hello! Your home has been TP'ed, which--for today, at least--means that it has been Tootsie Popped. These Tootsie Pops are your for the licking (and/or biting) not as a part of some marketing campaign but because of an initiative called Positive Pranking started by the author Amy Krouse Ronsethal with the help of the nerdfighters, an Internet-based community of people who seek to decrease the overall worldwide level of suck. Please enjoy, and if you're so inclined, start your own positive pranking adventure. You can find out more at http://blogs.vocalo.org/blog/amykr Best wishes, John Green - The Terrible Burden of Destiny: Chicago and Waupaca
F120The Terrible Burden of Destiny: Chicago and WaupacaIn which John drives from Chicago to Waupaca, Wisconsin, where he spoke and signed as part of the first Waupaca Book Festival. Thanks to everyone who came out in Wisconsin; it was great to meet all of you. - GEEKING OUT Over Dying Declarations
F122GEEKING OUT Over Dying DeclarationsIn which John goes completely nuts over the publication of the brilliant reference source LAST WORDS OF NOTABLE PEOPLE, which includes the last words of everyone from William Faulkner to Robert Frost to Benjamin Franklin, and which you, too, can own: http://amzn.to/cYxay8 (And no, they did not pay me to make this video. I just GEEK OUT OVER THE LAST WORDS OF FAMOUS PEOPLE, as you already know if you've read Looking for Alaska.) - On Hope and Chile
F124On Hope and ChileIn which John joins the world in watching watching Chile and the extraordinary rescue of the Chilean miners who are being rescued after more than two months underground. He also discusses the relentlessness of human hope, beckoning lovely, the fact that it gets better, and 10.10.10. - TOP 7 FAILS OF HISTORY
F125TOP 7 FAILS OF HISTORYThe other day I said I would speak at an event here in Missoula. I slept in, missed my speaking slot, and felt like a totally failure. So I read about some of the worst fails of all time to make myself feel better. I may have let some people down, but at least my fail didn't lead to the deaths of millions of people. - Giraffe Sex: A Terrifying Introduction to Nature at Work (and Play)
F126Giraffe Sex: A Terrifying Introduction to Nature at Work (and Play)In which John discusses the sexuality and mating habits of the giraffe, giraffe bisexuality, the importance of people who love giraffes who love giraffes to the vlogbrothers youtube channel, and his brother's cute but totally misleading t-shirted illustration of giraffes in love. - Making Adorable Music
F128Making Adorable MusicIn which John auditions to join his brother Hank's band. The toys I use in this video are called sing-a-ma-jigs; kids REALLY LOVE THEM and I have to confess that this adult kind of does, too. (And no, singamajigs did not pay me to make this video. We don't accept paid product placement precisely so you don't have to ask yourself that question.) - Rocky Horror + Glee = ?
F129Rocky Horror + Glee = ?In which Hank discusses why he had a viscerally negative reaction to the news that Rocky Horror was doing Glee. Yes, there's part of me that doesn't want to see Rocky Horror get auto-tuned. And let me be clear when I say...NEARLY EVERY SONG ON GLEE IS AUTOTUNED. I don't know why they do it...the kids can sing...but they do it anyway, which I find extremely annoying. But it's cool for a few reasons too. But I think the big reason that I have an issue is that Rocky is about an experience. People often take it out of the theater and wonder "what's the big deal?" Because, without the theater experience, it isn't a big deal. The "big deal" of it is that the people who watch the Rocky Horror Picture Show made movie-watching a two-way experience. They became part of the movie...and they will forever be a part of the movie...if only in my head. I can't hear the lines of the actual songs anymore...I hear the callbacks. I don't know how glee will handle it, but I anticipate that they will strip out all of the interesting things about RHPS and just sing a few songs. Who knows though! But if you're over 18...you should go try and find a Rocky Horror showing in your area...because it will be an experience...it might be awkward...it might be confusing...but it will be an experience. - Hank Has Questions
F131Hank Has QuestionsIn which Hank asks a lot of questions...most of which are unanswerable. But, those happen to generally be the most interesting and even useful questions to ask. And I'm very curious about why that is. He talks some about The Rocky Horror Glee show, which, if you're wondering, he liked about 50% of the time, which is a pretty low percentage in his television viewing experience. And he talks about Fable 3, which is giving him a pretty hard time these days...keeping him up late trying to save his citizens from almost certain doom. Seriously, he think he's going to have to play it through again from the start to get everyone to live. - Consider the Lemming
F132Consider the LemmingIn which John discusses lemmings, the role the 1958 Disney documentary Winter Wilderness played in perpetuating the lie that lemmings commit suicide en masse, the limits of online video when it comes to education, Susan Sontag's book Regarding the Pain of Others, the Internet's fascination with decontextualized trivia, and a forthcoming vlogbrothers project. Also nerdfighter pumpkins. - God and Grain: The French Revolution, Part I
F134God and Grain: The French Revolution, Part IIn which John discusses the causes of the French Revolution and its initial events, including the French debt crisis under King Louis XVI, the convocation of the estates general, the rise of the third estate, the formation of the National Assembly, the tennis court oath at Versailles, the storming of the Bastille, the women's march, and the moving of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette to Paris. This is part of a four-video series designed to see whether we can make genuinely educational videos--the kind of videos that could actually help people learn the big and important things they have to learn in school. Nerdfighters gave us permission to make the videos longer than four minutes, so....no punishment. Let us know how we're doing. - Headless Monarchy: The French Revolution, Part II
F136Headless Monarchy: The French Revolution, Part IIIn which John Green continues his introduction to the history of the French Revolution, discussing Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette's flight to Varennes, the constituent assembly's attempts to write a constitution of France, France's brief experiment with constitutional monarch, war with Austria and Prussia and then eventually the rest of Europe, and the rise of the French Republic--also guillotines and the use of the guillotine in Revolutionary France. - REIGN OF TERROR: The French Revolution, Part III
F137REIGN OF TERROR: The French Revolution, Part IIIIn which John Green completes his introduction to the history of the French Revolution, discussing the rise of the Committee of Public Safety, Maxmillien Robespierre, the reign of terror, the guillotine, the death of Marie Antoinette, the Directory, the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte, and some thoughts on why we study history in the first place. - Hey! You! Fix the Budget!
F139Hey! You! Fix the Budget! In which John discusses the New York Times's web-based application allowing each of us to examine the extent and complexity of the United States federal budget deficit and the difficulty of balancing the budget. Do we increase taxes or cut spending? Or, more plausibly but less politically viable, both raise taxes and lower spending? Also there is some talk of pizza shirts. - Thoughts from Places: On a Horse
F142Thoughts from Places: On a HorseIn which Hank expands the idea of "places" a little bit and talks about the domestication of horses and his very limited experience being on a horse. If you're wondering, this video was filmed in Fairview N.C., outside of Asheville. - p4a, Space Pasta, and Giant Squids of Anger
F144p4a, Space Pasta, and Giant Squids of AngerIn which John and Hank Green reunite to discuss the 2010 Project for Awesome and then proceed to challenge nerdfighteria to solve a dinnertable dispute in re. the energy output needed to create moon pasta and then discuss the new t-shirts at DFTBA Records. The idea of the project for awesome is simple. You make a video in support of a charity you wish to support, and hopefully lots of people will watch and favorite and comment upon the video. P4A videos are particularly awesome and effective when they're well-edited videos that show us how the organization you support changes lives for the better. - Tongue Twisters
F149Tongue TwistersIn which Hank proves that he can think too much about ANYTHING by thinking too much about Tongue Twisters. It's all about the sibilant fricatives baby. Tongue twisters are actually a universal game that all people play regardless of language. The best ones have a few qualities: 1. They will trip you up 2. They're fun to say when you get it right 3. Opportunities for Embarassment 4. Excellent Rhythm and cadence and possibly rhyme as well. Psycho-linguists (yes, that's a thing) still don't know exactly why tongue twisters trip people up, but they do know that it has more to do with the mind than the tongue. But the point is that speech is far more complicated and wonderful than we generally give it credit for, and tongue twisters are one of the few opportunities we really get to enjoy how amazing it really is. - PROJECT FOR AWESOME 2010: Save the Children and Partners in Health
