- Razorbitzvor 4 TagenJust a weird, wonderful, uneven time. If its a weird weather event? Big monster. Cave in? Monster. Weirdly light rock? Remote control for a monster. I love it. Many of the creatures featured here come back in the following Ultraman series to get their butt whipped but they are all together more interesting here. However, you get into beat of things and it starts to get boring rather quickly. And then, every so often, a completely unhinged episode unrelated to the wider plot will play out that will leave you gasping for air from laughter. If you adore practical effects and the general destruction of miniatures like I do, this whole series is worth a watch. This series was devised after the initial success of Godzilla as the japanese twilight zone--to which I can't deny the similarities. Ultra Q is wholly original however, and deserves to be seen by anyone with a fondness for silver age special effects and tokusatsu fans alike. It's available both in Black and White as well as color, but I rather liked the monochromatic look to it all. I genuinely think the whole series is worth a watch, but my particular favorite episodes are as follows: Episode 6: Grow Up! Little Turtle--based on an old folktale and turned up to 11, hilarious with or without context. Episode 13/16: Garadama/Garamon strikes back--the most inept alien invasion ever put to screen. The monster is adorable and stupid Episode 15: Kanegon's Cocoon--A fun parable on greed with a great sci-fi angle Episode 19: Challenge from the year 2020--A weird concept made all the stranger by the monster. A genuinely unsettling episode with a great plot and set up, but the Alien Kemur is what makes the episode memorable. The final sequence of the episode plays out like a nightmare I won't soon forget.
