One day, retired colonel Zakharov, who had previously been investigating particularly important and high-profile cases, arrives in a provincial town. Wanting to pass his free time, the man goes to the local theater. In a production based on the classic scenario, the life of the main character is cut short by a shot, but very soon it becomes obvious that a real murder of the actress playing the main role has taken place. A talented but young investigator is investigating a mysterious crime, assisted by a mature and experienced Zakharov.
