The 90s are long gone. But the echo of those difficult and dark times remains, haunting major Kirill Reshetov at night. His colleagues bring him some terrible news: his ex-girlfriend and fellow police officer Natalya has been brutally murdered. The shocked Reshetov races to Yaroslavl, Natalya's hometown. No sooner than he arrives at the station does he discover that he and Natalya have a child-a 15-year-old daughter he knew nothing about. Major Reshetov soon realises that the murder has something to do with the Likhov case that he and Natalya worked on almost 20 years ago.
