The story starts shortly before World War Two. Jan and Captain Kostin are in love but General Danilov is also in love with the girl. In June 1941 Kostin leaves for his new deployment. The war begins. Nazis capture Jan's home town. Kostin is wounded but he traverses hundreds of miles to find the woman he loves. But he finds only her grave.
