By chance, Kanbei Sekiya at 63, Sanshiro Inui at 77, and Genmu at 67 start a journey to Edo. But, on the way, they run out of money and decide to use their skills to make a living. Kanbei, fulfilling a longtime wish, goes back to his hometown after 20 years only to find his family estate in ruins. Sanshiro continues his easygoing journey, passing on family leadership to his son. Genmu, who claims to be a ninja linked to the legendary Kiri-gakure Saizo, starts a wandering adventure. The three retirees, with years of wisdom and experience, face wrongdoers. Alongside them is the mysterious woman Ocho, as they begin a lively four-person journey.
