- (Emily, Co-President) This isn't the kind of show I would normally gravitate toward. The world of MMA is BRUTAL. Just like the real life version, the fights on this show are intense and can be incredibly difficult to watch. And yet, I absolutely love this series. For me Kingdom is special despite the violence—because of the relationships. At its core, the show is about family, ambition, loyalty, addiction, identity, and all of the complicated ways we can both hurt and love the people closest to us. Every character is flawed, and every relationship feels messy, complicated, and completely human. As with most shows I love, the performances are what makes the series so great. Matt Lauria gives such a powerful nuanced performance as Ryan, showing both strength and vulnerability, and Jonathan Tucker is just so good as Jay. It's one of those performances (that Tucker is known for) that is impossible to look away from because you never know exactly what he'll do next. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. Even amid all the punches, blood, and broken bones, I don’t think the series ever loses sight of the emotional stakes. It’s about people trying to figure out who they are, what they owe the people they love, and whether redemption is ever really possible.
