Catweazle, a scruffy 11th century wizard, accidentally time travels to 1970s England and finds himself bewildered by telephones (“telling bones”), electricity (“elec trickery”) and cars (“iron horses”). With the help of two kind hearted boys, first Carrot, then Cedric, he tries to find his way back to his own time, armed only with spells, superstition and a frog named Touchwood. Geoffrey Bayldon’s performance is pure gold: eccentric, heartfelt and hilariously confused. The show blends gentle comedy with a wistful sense of displacement, a man out of time, clinging to magic in a world that runs on machines. Watching it again feels like opening a dusty storybook from your childhood, one filled with laughter, wonder and a touch of melancholy. It’s quirky, charming and deeply British in the best way.

Catweazle ist ein schrulliger, alter, angelsächsischer Zauberer, der im 11. Dort entdeckt er die moderne Zivilisation und deren Wunder, wobei er technische Neuerungen für kraftvolle Magie hält. In der ersten Staffel hilft ihm der Farmersohn Harold Bennet die Tücken der modernen Welt zu überstehen. Am Ende der Staffel kehrt Catweazle zu Bennets Überraschung wieder in seine Zeit zurück.
