Pretty much exactly what you’d expect from a movie about making an adult film on a secluded ranch with scary ominous owners. Some pretty tense moments, and the gore definitely doesn’t disappoint. A lot of red flags blatantly ignored which lead to some of the kills but oh well, this movie knew what it was. Can’t be that mad at it. Shout out kid cudi!
- Zokkiie25. Juni 2026This is a pretty fun throwback to old-school horror, but with its own weird style. The ’70s setting, the creepy farm atmosphere, and the grimy look all work really well and give it a lot of character. Mia Goth is easily the best part, and she carries a lot of the movie with a really strong performance. The slow build is probably going to be the biggest issue for some people, because it takes its time before things really start going crazy. But once it gets there, it has some great horror moments, a lot of style, and some scenes that are hard to forget. Not a perfect slasher, but it’s definitely different enough to stand out.
- Garrett Wilkins5. Juni 2026I actually thought X was a pretty decent slasher. It never takes itself too seriously, but that lighter approach works in the film's favor and fits naturally with its throwback identity. Ti West captures the gritty, late-1970s aesthetic without making it feel like a gimmick, balancing dry humor with genuinely tense sequences that kept me invested throughout. Mia Goth is the clear standout, but Jenna Ortega also leaves a strong impression, bringing a natural, believable quality to her performance that makes her feel like one of the film's most grounded characters. The entire cast commits fully to the film's offbeat tone, and it all comes together in a way that feels authentic rather than manufactured. I also appreciated that X never seemed obsessed with reinventing the slasher genre. It knows exactly what kind of movie it wants to be, and I found that confidence refreshing. Instead of chasing bigger twists or constantly trying to surprise the audience, it focuses on executing familiar ideas well, and I think it's better for it. Now that Ti West's trilogy is complete, I still lean toward X being my favorite over both Pearl and MaXXXine. It just strikes a really good balance between the horror and the entertainment value, making it the entry I've had the easiest time revisiting.
- jackmeat5. November 2024My quick rating - 7.1/10. Another one I was looking forward to. Oh, is there some shit in this one to creep you out, and it has nothing to do with gore or jump scares LOL!!! Ti West isn't a stranger to horror, and this is about as much in control for him as he has gotten on the full budget. Along with full backing, he seems to have had free rein on the subject matter, which is just as important as the horror elements themselves. The group of young adults heading to Texas to shoot a porno movie is a nice and unique setup for what is to come, but the attention to detail in the scenes of this faux movie being made is really well done. Definite attention to detail for the setup is nice, and some may think unnecessary. I welcomed it since taking this movie in as a whole, and it is about as stylized a horror flick as we have seen in a while. The cast all play their parts a bit better than one expects for a horror flick, as well as most especially Mia Goth, who pulls double duty as the wannabe superstar using porn to break into the biz, along with playing the elderly wife of the farm's owner, where they are renting the guest house to film at. And the old couple that runs this place is an entirely new take on what we are expecting in a slasher flick. They are quirky, to say the least, and where their characters lead us brings you right to my first comment I made above while watching. Between the tropes that are all included for our viewing pleasure and the location itself, the Texas Chainsaw vibe is strong and clearly an influence for this one. Though the movie takes its time building up the tension, it is done so while being backed by some very clever and wonderful camerawork to entertain the eyes. And as soon as it is time for any bloodletting, it is brought on with plenty of gusto, so don't worry about any PG-13 crap. Always a good sign when long after the movie ends, there are still images stuck in your head. I have TWO clear ones that haven't left me yet, and I am sure there will be plenty for you as well. Not to spoil anything, but be careful where you walk and swim. So well done in their cinematography, and those aren't even the creepy-ass things that all women are going to have stuck in their heads long after. Also, don't miss the short scene after the credits, which is a setup for a sequel called "Pearl" which is already a thing, telling the backstory of the old woman. Judging by the fare last year gave, I am thinking this will be a top ten-of-the-year candidate, but we shall see.
- Stephen Guerrero28. Oktober 2025This film appears to leave off where the prequel left us, and the madness is still very fertile in this character's heart and mind. There is just enough true creepiness to have you wondering where this is going, even though the actions seen so far point to horrorific results. My face hurts from how big of a smile the ending of this film gave me, Delicious Fun.
- Kevin Ward1. Juli 2025This was a blast. Loved the gritty 70’s aesthetic, playing with aspect ratios, and the gruesome and bloody second half. Really loved Mia Goth and Brittany Snow as well as Jenna Ortega here. It’s surface level fun as a porny and horny horror slasher, but there’s definitely more going on under the skin. With commentary on sexuality and desire, age and beauty, it will be really interesting to see what the prequel Pearl has in store. I mean, c’mon. Pearl just wants a little death in her life, right? Really impressed by this. May have to check out more of Ti West’s work as I think this was my introduction to anything he’s directed.
