- cris97x17. April 2026I love the actor — I saw him in Great Freedom too — but I'm so confused by this movie. What was the point? In the end, it felt more like a movie that was trying to make Muslims look good. (I'm not hating, I'm just saying it stopped feeling like a movie about a gay man, even.) And I'm still confused. Were they the killers or not? I agree — the ending was a bit annoying. It felt cheap for him to just show up out of nowhere like that. I think it's strange that they didn't mention whether they caught the killers. I thought it was them halfway through the movie, and then with the car, I was like, "Yeah, it's them," but then the movie ends and leaves me really confused. I just don't get it. I understand that was his personality and he was hurt, but I thought it was rude and in poor taste for him to show up wearing those clothes. With the talk of him having an angel, I thought it was the guy he found in the bathroom — because he knew Mario, they decided not to kill him — and his suspicious look didn't help either; it made me think he was part of it. And yeah, that's probably one of the things the movie is trying to teach, but as I said, it felt like the focus was just on them. In the end, this movie just left me like, "WTF, I'm confused.

In seinem kleinen südtiroler Heimatdorf kennt jeder den schrägen und sensiblen Mario, der leidenschaftlich gerne tanzt. Von den anderen Bewohnern zwar akzeptiert, aber zugleich kritisch beäugt, findet er immerhin in seinem Vater einen Verbündeten. Als Mario seinen Jugendfreund Lenz wieder trifft, drängen sich Gefühle an die Oberfläche. Dieser lebt mittlerweile als Schauspieler in Rom, und Mario beschliesst kurzerhand, ihm hinterherzureisen. Die beiden treffen sich in einer Schwulenbar, doch Mario realisiert bald, dass Lenz nicht unbedingt auf ihn gewartet hat. Als plötzlich bewaffnete Männer in die Bar stürmen, wird Lenz Opfer eines Attentats, und Mario kommt unversehrt davon. Als er ins Südtirol zurückkehrt, gerät sein Leben allmählich aus den Fugen.
Die Hauptcharaktere in Hochwald sind Mario (Thomas Prenn), Lenz (Noah Saavedra), Metzger Hermann (Hannes Perkmann).
