My quick rating - 7.9/10. Wow. Train to Busan has to be one of the best zombie films to come along in a LONG time. Easily in the conversation of the top 10. The Korean masterpiece does what very few zombie films will do. You genuinely care about the characters involved. This includes rooting for some, and you will downright also be pulling for others to become dinner. When a zombie infestation breaks out in Seoul, survivors are forced to survive on a train on its way to a possibly safe city, Busan. How this outbreak occurs is slightly alluded to and really is unimportant to the overall struggle you are to bear witness to in survival. The attention to detail and creativity used to keep the action going while being stuck on a train for the majority of the movie is a treat to behold. The acting does seem to be well done, and though I watched a dubbed version, I checked the subtitles, and I believe they were even worse to use with the Korean original speech. Either way, the acting looked good and felt convincing enough. The script took care of that. Ma Dong-seok was a nice addition to the cast here. An absolute must for fans of the genre with the style that is presented and scenes that just demonstrate the magnitude of full-out zombie invasions instead of 5 or 6 of the undead roaming around town.

After all these years, I finally caught up with this one! When it first came out, I was so sick and tired of zombie movies that I just skipped it altogether. It is a phenomenally well made zombie film that is gripping right from the start, keeping you completely invested in what happens next. The zombies look incredibly realistic, and you genuinely connect with the main characters emotionally. It absolutely lives up to all the immense hype surrounding it. In my eyes, it has easily earned a spot as one of the best zombie movies on my list.

  • Forget about the ordinary and immerse yourself into this amazing zombie thriller experience. If you love thrillers and zombie flicks, then you are in for a ride with this one. This film has it all: the hero arc, character development, insane action, relentless tension, drama, tear jerk, comedy, special effects, great cinematography and most of all excellent pace! Well done to the Korean cinema.

Let’s Talk Zombie Cinema: From Slow-Burn Classics to Thrillers 🧟‍♂️🎬

It made me want to lay out my personal all-time favorites and see how everyone else ranks the undead. Here is a breakdown of what hits the absolute sweet spot for me: 1. The High-Octane Emotional Rollercoaster: Train to Busan (2016) I actually skipped this for years because of severe zombie fatigue when it first dropped, but man, I get the hype now. It completely revitalized the genre. It’s gripping from the very first scene, the zombie choreography is terrifyingly realistic, and most importantly, it actually makes you care. Getting so deeply attached to the characters emotionally makes the survival stakes feel incredibly real. It easily jumped right into my top tier. 2. The Action-Horror Blockbuster: The Resident Evil Franchise Look, say what you want about the continuity, but as a massive action-horror ride, this franchise is incredibly fun. The blend of sci-fi tech, rogue AI, viral outbreaks, and stylized action pieces makes it the ultimate popcorn survival series. It’s just pure, nostalgic entertainment that defined a whole era of gaming and cinema crossover. 3. The Blueprint: Dawn of the Dead (1978) You can’t talk about zombies without paying respect to George A. Romero's classic. The atmosphere of being trapped in that shopping mall, the slow-burn dread, and the brilliant social commentary underneath the gore make it a masterpiece. It proved that zombie movies could be incredibly smart while still being deeply unsettling. (Shoutout to Zack Snyder’s 2004 remake as well for turning up the adrenaline with those terrifying running zombies!) 4. The Hand-Drawn Masterpiece: Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (2000) For something completely unique, I have to include this classic. While it's a gothic sci-fi story about a half-vampire hunter, the post-nuclear world of 12,090 AD is packed with beautifully animated, dark, mutated creatures and the undead. There is a unique joy in watching old-school, hand-drawn animation like this everything feels tangible and authentic, completely safe from the lifeless CGI or AI-generation we see too much of today. Over to You Guys! The genre has changed so much from Romero's slow shufflers to Busan's aggressive sprinters. What does your all time zombie list look like? Are you into the dark, atmospheric classics, the emotional survival stories, or the loud, mindless action masala popcorn fun? Drop your recommendations and top 3 below! 👇
