- Manuel Frangis15. April 2025I just watched The Week Of and I give it 3 out of 5 stars. This is one of those movies that is just okay. It is not bad but it is not great either. It is the kind of comedy you throw on when you want something simple and familiar. Nothing about it really stands out, but at the same time, it is not trying to be anything more than a decent wedding week comedy. If you are a fan of Adam Sandler’s calmer stuff, you might find some charm here. Just do not expect anything wild or laugh out loud funny the whole way through. The story is about two very different dads trying to survive the week leading up to their kids’ wedding. Adam Sandler plays the working-class father who insists on paying for everything himself, even if it means cutting corners and running into disaster after disaster. Chris Rock plays the wealthier, more laid-back father of the groom who just wants things to go smoothly. That contrast is what drives most of the movie’s humor. Adam Sandler keeps it pretty low-key in this one. He is not playing his usual loud character. He is more grounded, more stressed out, and trying to hold it all together even as everything around him starts falling apart. I actually liked that side of him. It felt more like real life and less like a performance. Chris Rock has a few good moments too, but his character feels underused. He is there, but he kind of fades into the background after a while. The comedy is really dry and awkward most of the time. There are a few funny parts, but a lot of the jokes are just uncomfortable situations or awkward family moments that drag on. The pacing is slow, and you definitely feel the length. There are moments that are funny, and others where it feels like they could have cut the scene in half. Some jokes just go on too long or miss the mark. What I did like was the tone. It is more of a family comedy than anything else. There is heart behind it. You can tell it is trying to show what it is like when people do their best, even when everything is going wrong. It is about pride, family, and all the little things that go wrong during a big event like a wedding. There is something kind of nice about how normal it all feels, even when it gets ridiculous. The supporting cast has a few standouts. Steve Buscemi shows up in a small role and steals a few scenes like he always does. There are also a lot of background characters, and some of them add to the chaos in a fun way. Others just feel like filler. The hotel setting is used a lot, and some of the running gags with the building do get a little tiring after a while. I give The Week Of 3 out of 5 stars because it is decent, familiar, and has a few good moments, but it never really takes off. It just kind of rolls along with some laughs here and there. Overall The Week Of is a slow, awkward comedy with a little heart, a few laughs, and a very mellow vibe. It is not a must-see, but it is not a waste of time either. Just know what you are getting into.

Die Hochzeit gilt als der schönste Tag im Leben und will deshalb akribisch und schon lange im Voraus geplant werden, aber nicht immer läuft alles so glatt, wie es sollte. Auch Sarah (Allison Strong) möchte demnächst vor den Traualtar treten, doch ihre Vermählung steht unter keinem guten Stern. Schließlich will ihr Vater Kenny (Adam Sandler) unbedingt die Kosten dafür übernehmen, obwohl er nicht das nötige Kleingeld für ein großes Fest zur Verfügung hat. Zu allem Überfluss ärgert ihn auch der Vater (Chris Rock) des Bräutigams, denn als Chirurg hat er deutlich mehr Geld auf dem Konto, weswegen er alles bezahlen will. Doch Kenny möchte sich darauf ganz und gar nicht einlassen und so stehen die Anzeichen auf Sparmodus. Während der Vorbereitungsphase müssen die beiden gegensätzlichen Väter zudem mehr Zeit miteinander verbringen, als ihnen lieb ist…
