Die Wege von Balthazar und Dave kreuzen sich zehn Jahre später wieder. Dann beginnt Dave, zu einem ungelenken Physikstudent herangewachsen, seine Ausbildung als Zaubergeselle, die er bald dringend nötig hat.

- Richard21. Oktober 2025First streamed, then rescued from the bargain Blu-ray bin and no regrets. This one got a raw deal from critics, but honestly? It’s a charming, effects heavy romp that knows exactly what it is: a Disney fied Cage vehicle with lightning bolts, ancient rings and a mop scene that tips its hat to Fantasia without drowning in nostalgia. Nicolas Cage is in full “eccentric mentor with great hair” mode and Jay Baruchel plays the reluctant apprentice with enough awkward charm to sell the whole “MIT kid learns magic” premise. Alfred Molina chews scenery like it’s a buffet and the whole thing moves fast enough that you don’t have time to question the physics of plasma bolts in Manhattan. Watched it first on streaming, but it stuck with me, not because it’s flawless, but because it’s fun. The kind of fun that makes you want to own it. So I did. No, it’s not Harry Potter. It’s not trying to be. It’s a popcorn flick with heart, Cage and a dragon ring. And sometimes, that’s exactly what you need.

This should have kicked off at least a sequel or two - but Disney was impatient and moved on to buying franchises instead of developing them - and we're the worse for it in all ways.
