Amerika anno 2023. Seit sechs Jahren finden schon die zwölfstündigen Säuberungen statt, in denen eine Nacht lang Mord ungesühnt bleibt. Ausgerechnet zwei Stunden vor Beginn der Anarchie bleibt das Auto des Pärchens Liz und Shane liegen - eine maskierte Bande hat sie als Opfer auserkoren. - Daniel Gustavsson13. Oktober 2024Much more ambitious and larger in scale than the first movie. It works out surprisingly well for something like this. Note that this is more of an action movie than the first and is in general a departure in style. It's also pretty much a part 1 of 2. The third movie follows this story.
- Zokkiievor 1 TagThis one just works better than the first. Opening things up to the city gives it way more energy and makes everything feel less trapped and more unpredictable. There’s actual momentum this time, and when it goes into full chaos mode, it delivers. It’s still not deep at all, and the characters are pretty forgettable. Some of the story beats are obvious and a bit lazy if you think about them too much. But it stays moving, keeps things tense, and never gets as dull as the first one could.ä

- Kevin Ward1. Juli 2025Middling action fare (pretty standard for a Frank Grillo feature) with an on the nose metaphor on economic inequality, and systemic oppression. Plenty of commentary on American gun culture as well. Full disclosure: I’ve not seen the first Purge film, but my it was son’s turn to choose the film and he wanted to see this one, specifically. We enjoyed it for the most part. I just generally have a hard time accepting the premise. That’s part of why I’ve never seen any of these before. I plan to check them out eventually though.
