When you are told in plain english what is going on in the movie, and yet, you know for sure it's some thing else, and then in the end, everything comes full circle and you marvel at the genius of the entire experience. What a great movie. Being a period piece and the subject matter, I always feared it was a rip off of the Houdini legend or something. But it's not. It's authentically new and clever and deeply engrossing. You can only watch it for the first time, once. So save that experience for a time when you can give it your full attention, because it's full of nuance while still being direct. It's Christopher Nolan at his best.

- Jay Marie Bailey31. Mai 2026Gripping, just gripping until the very end. Jackman & Bale draw you in to their world. The score builds the intensity as is typical for every Nolan film. I'm not sure how this could be improved upon. Found it very interesting that Caine was used in the magic related Now You See Me movies, he really adds that gravitas.

It pulls you in with the bright eyed optimism of young and hopeful magicians only to drag you down a dark path of rivalry and obsession. The leads turn out to be some of the worst people imaginable with absolutely no regard for the lives of anyone else. Nolan manages to create facinating and interesting characters that almost everyone can agree are horrile. The performances are top notch accross the board (Save Andy Serkis' accent) and the dialogue sleek. The pacing is like a Rolly Royce, Smooth but Fast. I've watched this film several times and pick up missed setups every time. The 4K Bluray is solid if not spectacular.
