The Monkey Rezensionen & Wertungen
- Scott20. Februar 2025A spiritual successor to Final Destination. Never thought I could, or would, call a movie about generational trauma genuinely funny and yet here we are.
- Iby Omidakhsh18. April 2025I paid nothing to watch this movie, but I already want my money back.
- NjParmar7. März 2026Although I am not the biggest fan of the main actor, the movie itself was quite entertaining with some dark humor along the way.
- Cullen Cockburn10. April 2025A dumb and goofy movie with no plot. It was fantastic.
- DJ22. Februar 2025Big horror buff, just see my activity, and I appreciate all forms of horror. Funny, sad, violent, mind games, splatter etc. etc. and I really wanted to love this as a popcorn splatterfest but it fell short of even my lukewarm expectations. The kills were fun but rushed. The dark comedy for whatever reason just didn’t seem to fit the film. I also love most of Osgood Perkins work (Blackcoat and Long Legs). Just fell short. Do I recommend it as a couch watch? Sure, but don’t expect much. Premise, a cursed toy monkey kills randomly every-time you turn the crank on it. Pretty simple.
- nox107. April 2025that priest " Oh fuck " 4.5, absolute cinema
- Paul Walsh3. März 2026Osgood Perkins may be the most prolific mainstream horror movie director at the moment. The man just keeps cranking out films. This one is a quirky, violent cursed item horror movie that does not take itself very seriously. A breezy watch with some interesting kills. Elijah Wood's brief appearance is hilarious.
- marshalsea22. April 2025Anyone reviewing this low doesn't have the right sense of humour. They've also completely missed out on an outrageous time. This was an absolute riot, perfectly pitched, acted, directed - camp in a proper 80s b-movie way, gory in a proper 80s b-movie way, over the top in a proper 80s b-movie way. If Andy Scott with an outrageous moustache laughing maniacally with a flame thrower didn't set this up you're the problem. Os Perkins hits it out the park again in a very different way. Looking forward to his next one.
- Kain30. März 2025i really have no idea what i just watched. um there’s gore if you into that stuff… and uhhh yeah that’s all i have.
- jakeytastic30. April 2025The monkey Nearly killed us with boredom. I think we giggled once or twice but my god most of it was just so dumb and boring as if a dull depressed child wrote this script? Honestly it had the same energy of that macaroni masterpiece a child would bring home from school. Those of ye giving this a 5 star and saying its brilliant and that the rest of us just don't understand it, ye really need to examine yourselves, like really. Actual line from the movie "sorry your mom died. She was my mom too, we're twins. Oh yeah, i guess thats true, never thought of that" 🤷🏻♂️ haha so funny 🤷🏻♂️
- LivewireAdmin3. Februar 2026Surprisingly decent? I was underwhelmed by Longlegs so I went into The Monkey with low expectations and it was for the better. Perkins seems to be able to juggle horror and comedy better than he does just straight horror. I don't believe I have seen Theo James in anything else before but he was excellent in this. Tatiana Maslany as well.
- Hadiyah Weaver23. Februar 2025I was skeptical at first but it’s actually really fire! I love when comedy/horror is fused, the ending could’ve been just a smidge more crazy but I still love the level they took it to!
- cultfilmliker5. März 2025Some of the jokes fall flat but overall a very funny film. Enjoyed the obvious Hitchcock tribute but I wonder how much longer Oz wants to remind everyone he’s a nepo-baby. It’s tough to hold it against him, but Theo James is so damn handsome I honestly can’t take anything he says seriously. Or maybe he’s just a subpar actor. I just wasn’t a fan of the understated emotions but I get it - the dude’s repressed. Enjoyed the other performances of people I wasn’t very familiar with! Sarah Levy and Oz were a humorous couple for how long they lasted. And Adam Scott and Elijah Wood were solid in guest roles. The girl bullies were…an interesting choice, and the false resolution featured some (possibly intentional) horrendous dialogue. Overall tho, I think Oz is comfortable with the groove he’s found and I am enjoying his work! Including a trailer for your next project at the end is curious! Gonna give it a rare qualifier and say it fits between 3 and 3.5* so ima officially say 3.25* Watched at Derby Plaza Theaters
- Shaydeknight19. September 2025This movie was weird, just plain bonkers, and I really liked it for some odd reason. The ridiculously over-the-top death scenes were ghastly, but also, somehow, hilarious. The acting was solid across the board. Not Oscar material, but everyone seemed to understand the assignment and just went with the absurdity. Theo James does a convincing job playing both brothers, giving them just enough distinction to make their dynamic work, and surprisingly, Ms. Ultra-Woke Tatiana Maslany brings some real emotional grounding to a story that might otherwise spin entirely into chaos. Elijah Wood pops up in a small but memorable role, clearly having fun. The plot was thin, but honestly, this isn’t a film you watch for deep reflection or character study. It felt more like an unapologetic playground for gore, the kind of film that gleefully revels in carnage. It reminded me of Peter Jackson’s early splatter comedies like Dead Alive or Bad Taste, where the blood flows freely and the absurdity is dialed up so high it becomes its own kind of humor. There were also shades of Final Destination with its fate-driven deaths, though here the film doesn’t take itself nearly as seriously and is probably better for it. Technically, the film is put together competently. The camera work and editing keep the pace brisk, making sure the next kill or bizarre twist lands before you’ve caught your breath from the last one. Osgood Perkins’ direction shows confidence in the material, knowing when to lean into horror and when to let the comedy bubble up. Some viewers might find the tone a little uneven (jumping from grim to goofy without warning) but for me, that’s part of the charm. It feels like a ride that’s just barely under control. This is not a slow-burn, atmospheric horror film. It’s loud, gory, and quite silly, and it works on those terms. Go in expecting chaos, not subtlety, and you’ll probably have as much fun as I did.
- Cherryflix11. Januar 2026Batshit bonkers. Watch this.
