Die Astronauten Mark Watney, Commander Lewis, Rick Martinez, Chris Beck, Alex Vogel und Beth Johanssen sind auf dem roten Planeten gelandet, inklusive eines Fahrzeugs und eines Habitats, in dem die Forscher leben und Nahrung herstellen können. Doch ein Sandsturm droht die mitgebrachte Technik samt ihrer Einwohner hinwegzufegen, so dass Commander Lewis den Befehl zum sofortigen Aufbruch gibt. Weil ihn seine Crew für tot hält, bleibt der Botaniker Mark Watney auf dem unwirtlichen fremden Planeten zurück. Mit beschädigter Ausrüstung versucht er, die wenigen ihm zur Verfügung stehenden Mittel so einfallsreich wie möglich zu nutzen. Und tatsächlich gelingt es Watney, der Erde zu signalisieren, dass er noch lebt. Die NASA unter Direktor Sanders beginnt, die Rettung des „Marsianers“ zu planen. Parallel dazu startet Watneys Crew eine eigene, riskante Mission, ihn heimzuholen …

- alihoneycutt18. März 2026I thought this was a documentary at first. but then, at 101:30, the woman took accountability for something. It was then I knew, that if she sprouted wings and flew to Mars by herself to rescue Watney, it would have been more realistic than a woman accepting accountability for anything. Can't wait for The Martian 2: The Aliens Attack and the Woman who Cooked Dinner for her Husband. Great film though.

Matt Damon does a nice job as "Captain Blond Beard" and I am sure he woukd agree a better pirate then spaceman. The story keeps you engaged and rooting for a mission that will never happen in our lifetime, if it does I'll comeback to this review and apologize to everyone who read it.
