It takes communities that often seem trapped in layers of inherited suspicion and mutual hostility and turns that tension into comedy without pretending that the underlying divisions are trivial. What makes the film work is its lightness. It constantly walks the line between sharp satire and outright provocation, and sometimes deliberately steps over it. That is exactly why it feels valuable. In an age increasingly shaped by self-censorship and political correctness, open and uncomfortable communication is often treated as a problem in itself, even though avoiding difficult subjects can make genuine understanding harder rather than easier. The film argues, through comedy, that prejudices are better exposed, mocked, and discussed than buried. Not every joke lands equally well, but the willingness to take risks gives the film an energy that more cautious comedies often lack. Above all, The Infidel is extremely funny — a rapid-fire comic assault on religious stereotypes, cultural assumptions, and mutual suspicion, delivered with enough warmth to keep the satire from becoming purely cynical.

Der britische Muslim Mahmud nimmt's locker mit seiner Religion. Doch da eröffnet ihm sein Sohn Rashid, dass ein bekannter fundamentalistischer Prediger als Rashids neuer künftiger Schwiegervater wird und demnächst auf der Matte steht. Weswegen sich Mahmud, um den Eheschluss nicht zu gefährden, doch bitte etwas strenggläubiger geben soll. Schlimmer aber noch: Mahmud muss durch Zufall erfahren, dass er nicht nur ein Adoptivkind, sondern von Geburt her gar ein Jude ist. Und um seinen leiblichen Vater, einen totkranken Rabiner, besuchen zu dürfen, muss er das suspekte "Jüdisch-Sein" erst lernen. Dabei kann nur der zynische sarkastischer Taxifahrer und Menschenfeind Lenny Goldberg helfen.
