Frank Bannister ist Geisterjäger, doch jedermann hält ihn für einen gewieften Betrüger. Das stimmt auch, doch Frank ist tatsächlich mit Geistern im Bunde, die er seit einem Autounfall, bei dem seine Frau ums Leben kam, sehen kann. Drei davon wohnen noch bei ihm: Cyrus, Stuart und der Richter, dem allerdings schon das Ektoplasma ausgeht. Da gibt es plötzlich eine mysteriöse Sterbewelle in der Stadt, bei der den Opfern das Herz regelrecht zerquetscht wurde. Frank ist ob seiner Kräfte in der unglücklichen Lage, den geisterhaften Killer, der wie der Sensenmann persönlich aussieht, auszumachen, sieht er doch schon an den Opfern das Zeichen ihres bevorstehenden Todes. Da bittet ihn Lucy Lynskey um Hilfe, deren Mann zu den Opfern gehört, kurz nachdem Frank die beiden übers Ohr gehauen hatte. Tatsächlich hat Frank nun auch ihren Mann Ray als Geist an den Hacken...

- Jean Sean3. Mai 2026First saw this movie in elementary school. Rewatched it and it's still kicks ass. Even though the CGI shows its age on some parts, it holds up extremely well. The actors that play the antagonists are so god damn creepy that any time I see them in any other films, it's hard to shake the image of the absolute psychopaths they play in this movie. It's fun, scary, weird and makes me wish we got more Michael J Fox (damn you Parkinson's)

The visuals are inventive, the pacing never drags, and the humor lands just right. Definitely one of those films that’s way more memorable than most give it credit for. It’s a cult classic for a reason, and honestly, highly underrated—once you watch it, it sticks with you in the best way.

- GBWest1. November 2025The Frighteners is a fun comedy, action, horror. Michael J Fox brings the energy. Yes, he is a charlatan, taking advantage of his ability to communicate with the dead. However, when he comes across something odd he tries to donthe right thing, even when it causes more trouble for himself. This movie was supposed to be a Tales From The Crypt movie and took on a life of its own. That much is obvious when the story gets rolling. You'll laugh and cheer for the hero to save the day.
