The change of setting brings freshness to the film, and the contrast between gloomy London and the oppressive, suffocating interior of the house creates a vivid backdrop for the poltergeist story. The movie relies on classic horror tricks but also knows how to build tension more subtly. Some scenes, especially those involving possession, genuinely give you goosebumps. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson once again complement each other perfectly, giving the story an emotional core. While the sequel doesn’t break new ground, its atmosphere, characters, and well-crafted suspense make it a solid and satisfying horror film that is definitely worth watching.

I genuinely felt the fear and tension woven throughout the movie, thanks to its strong performances, chilling sound design, and carefully crafted scares. What makes it so effective is its ability to balance supernatural terror with heartfelt character moments, grounding the haunting in real human vulnerability. The result is an engrossing sequel that not only expands the Warrens’ cinematic mythology but also pulls you fully into its world, making the supernatural feel disturbingly believable.

Even if the scares are a touch reliant on jump scares, most are set up extremely well and are quite chilling—the nun, especially. I can see why she was spun off a new franchise. Plus, I can’t help but love anything with Vera Farmiga.
