The Bride! - Es lebe die Braut Rezensionen & Wertungen
- ርልዪረvor 2 TagenIs it a coincidence that theater chains are struggling badly in 2026 while most of the films meant to bring in audiences are flat out terrible? I always go in hoping for the next masterpiece until I'm disappointed. In the case of "The Bride!" it didn't take long. This film is plagued by jumbled ideas, incoherent dialogue that often isn't discernible and feels like rambling at times and a director in over her head. Look, I'm a fan of Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal as actors but Maggie has a long way to go as a director. Jake is just about completely wasted here. The great Christian Bale is limited by the script and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if there was a bunch of improvising here. I was really looking forward to a fresh take on classic tale and it really disappointed. Here's hoping that the slate of 2026's films going forward are much better, because so far, they've been quite disappointing and bad and "The Bride" is no different. I would NOT Recommend "The Bride!".

- Linovor 1 TagI didn't know what to make of this at first, but it was immediately evident that Jesse Buckley is incredibly talented (what a fabulous performance! and so I was drawn in and very quickly on board. The film has a kind of Unnatural Born Killers vibe - or Monnie & Bride 😏 a chaotic love-on-the-run story, touching on themes of abuse, rage, loneliness, betrayal and forgiveness, all with a sardonic sense of humour and vaudevillian style, and segues! I enjoyed this more than I thought I would.
- jackmeatvor 1 TagMy quick rating - 5.4/10. The Bride! opens with one of the bolder flexes I’ve seen lately. Mary Shelley, herself, popping in to remind us she wrote Frankenstein on a dare, like she invented horror because someone told her she couldn’t. Jessie Buckley, fresh off snatching an Oscar for Hamnet, pulls double duty as both Shelley in an interview and Ida/Penelope, the poor woman Shelley decides to spiritually haunt for the sake of crafting a sequel. Buckley wastes no time announcing, “Yes, I can act circles around this entire room, but allow me to show you anyway.” Shelley even warns us that if the original story frightened us, The Bride! will make us scream “HELP,” which is exactly the energy this movie tries to run with. Christian Bale plays Frank(enstein), lumbering into 1930s Chicago like a lonely tank with feelings. He explains his desire for a companion isn’t about sex. He just wants someone to talk to. Bale plays Frank with this raw, tender, hulking sadness that occasionally erupts into shockingly brutal outbursts. The man can absolutely fold someone in half when he’s irritated, which, honestly, makes him one of the more efficient protagonists of 2026. And the actor is one of the best roaming around Hollywood right now. When Frank asks Dr. Euphronius, played with Annette Bening’s signature “I know exactly what I’m doing” vibe, to resurrect a young woman, Ida is reborn almost too easily. No wires sparking, no assistants yelling “It’s alive!” Just a quick zap and boom, The Bride is here. If only renewing a passport were that smooth. Ida wakes up powerful, confused, and ready to disrupt society in ways neither Frank nor Euphronius planned. This leads to romance, police attention, and a spontaneous social movement that feels one hashtag away from trending. But the tone? Oh boy. The Bride! has both kinds of weird. Delightful weird, and “why is this here?” weird. One minute we’re in a moody 1930s drama, and the next we’re in a dance club blasting music that absolutely did not exist before Elvis was born. There’s even an odd dance sequence that appears, waves hello, and disappears without explanation. I’m all for a goofy detour, but this one looks like it wandered in from another movie and got lost. It’s evident that Maggie Gyllenhaal had quite a wide range of ideas, and she felt like experimenting with each and every one of them. Loneliness in contemporary society, similarities to MeToo, feminism, tragedy, romance, existential fear – the movie has it all. The only problem with The Bride! is that it can’t cope with such an overloaded storyline. Despite their brilliant performances that bring the film to near-brilliance, Buckley and Bale can barely save the disjointed plot. With better editing and about three less subplots, The Bride! could have been excellent rather than simply ambitiously good. Still, if you enjoy beautifully acted tragic love stories with a side of elegant chaos, there’s something here worth resurrecting. Just don't be surprised if you really like it while your best friend hates it. It is one of those that is either hit or miss.
- HannahMichellevor 1 TagAmazing. Hope they make a second one
- DJMOKvor 2 Tagengeezus this movie is shit. i knew it was going to be bad i just wasn't expecting it to be this bad. the bride has tourets syndrome well thats a different take on the bride.
- Stack Thatchervor 2 TagenGood interpretation of a classic story with a ride or die Bonnie and Clyde twist!
- thomasrogers75315. März 2026While it lacks direction at times The Bride is a fun time and worth watching Buckley and Bale give phenomenal performances that carry the movie They wouldn’t flash the Frankenweenie tho
- cultfilmliker15. März 2026If someone fucks you for a favor, you do the damn favor! Gotta say, I do agree with the message that sexual assault is bad. You should not do it. That’s most of what i agree with re: this film There are a lot of fun images! And Jessie Buckley is in most of them! Just don’t lust after her or you will die After seeing the trailer a million times, it’s unfortunate the whole plot didn’t feel new whatsoever. Promising Young Fuck-me-stein (had that loaded since I’ve seen two reviews reference that film sorry) I also liked the Joker: Folie à Deux comparison How many times are they gonna have her say, “I can’t remember”?? Having seen it, my o/u is 9.5 Impressive they condensed all of Irreversible into one scene Very bad conclusion! Did not like the doctor’s story! Phenomenal nepo-cast (her husband AND her brother!) that was unfortunately wasted Seeing Fever Ray was awesome. Seeing Fever Ray perform “Wanna Sip” = full star bump lol jk (kinda) but I loved it! And the fact that the film is set in the 40’s makes it so ridiculous. Wish it was louder!! ❤️Penelope Cruz innocent 🇵🇸❤️ Watched in IMAX at Warren Regal West Currently Ranked #20/27 in 2026 Ranked
- Hipster ZOMBIE14. März 2026Not sure why Frankenstein has been such a popular property Hollywood has desperately tried to pump woke ideology into over the past 3-4 years but The Bride is another Frankenstein film that fails to hit the mark. It wants to be seen as artsy and daring like Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein film. However, director Maggie Gyllenhall instead does everything she can to steer clear of what makes the tragic monster unique and instead wants to make the film an odd mashup of The Great Gatsby and Joker: Folie a Deux. Christian Bale plays Frankenstein like a simp while Jessie Buckley really tries hard and sometimes achieves moments of greatness as the Bride. However, the script doesn’t do any of the actors any favors and ultimately the film descends into yet another preachy woke story that not only misses the point, it fails to make a convincing one. And don’t get me started on the cringe inducing dance numbers. On paper, the idea of a Bonnie and Clyde/Frankenstein and his Bride mashup sounds great. Maybe in a better director’s hands it could have been. Bottom line, this film is one Bride that audiences should leave at the altar.
