I love nostalgic films so much. It truly is a blessing to be able to see media of the past. This film gives a super solid take on who/what is Superman. Mr. Reeve does an amazing job giving face to the character as well.

It’s one of those films that still just works, even with how old it is. There’s a sincerity to it that modern superhero stuff doesn’t always capture, and it makes it surprisingly easy to get into. Reeves is absolutely perfect in the role—hands down the best Superman, no debate. Hackman gives a fun, charismatic Luthor too, not Rosenbaum level but still solid in his own way. Some of the effects are definitely dated, but they don’t really take away from the experience. If anything, it just feels more charming because of it. Really solid overall.

Pretty iconic. But they definitely milked their new effects screen time. Ran long. Reece was a great casting. Luthor's lair rocks.

The title credit animations were a disaster and put me in a bad mood, plus it was boring because I spent too much time looking at ice.

This is how you do a superhero movie.

Truth, Justice, and the American way--here is a movie that doesn't just understand its titular character, it has defined him for generations to come. Sure, it has a weak third act and a bit of a Dues ex Machina there at the end, but somehow, the beating heart of the film pumps louder than all its flaws. This is THE face of Superman. THE Superman theme. THE Superman movie.

Reeve was born to play this role and he injects so much life into this movie and he’s is 1000% this best part of the film He just is Superman

“would you like a glass of wine?” “no, thanks. i never drink when i fly.” it has so much sincerity running through its veins— from the halation and sweeping camera movements in the cinematography to the awe and wonder superman inspires in the common person to christopher reeve’s stunning performance, everything looks and feels so beautiful and full of life; donner’s able to make rural kansas look like a paradise and he really takes his time with the characters. we don’t get clark in his superman costume until nearly an hour in and that restraint really makes a difference. it’s also unabashedly horny (i’m looking at you, balcony scene) and i adore that. there’s plenty narratively that feels corny or like it’s verging on nonsensical (reversing the earth’s rotation to turn back time is just batshit crazy), but that doesn’t really matter when it’s made with so much love and care for the character of clark kent; it really set the blueprint for superhero blockbusters and it’s not often that they’re able to achieve this level of artistry or authenticity.

It’s a great start to the Superman trilogy very slow paced but a good movie

While very clearly a product of it's time, there is an earnest optimism and general feeling of good will that shines through and keeps Superman feeling warm and fuzzy. I can't believe that it's taken me this long to sit down and watch Superman properly but it's clear to me now why people think that we will never quite recapture the Christopher Reeve magic... and maybe they are right. Reeve was quite clearly perfect for the role. The 4K bluray doesn't do much to justify it's own existence, but the more 4K blurays we get the better.

If you thought the original Superman: The Movie was already soaring high, the Expanded Edition rockets it straight into the stratosphere — cape, curl, and all. This isn't just the Superman you remember — it’s the ultimate love letter to golden-age heroism, cinematic wonder, and Christopher Reeve's pitch-perfect performance. The extra footage? Oh, it’s not fluff. It’s gold. Pure, nostalgic, John-Williams-score-backed gold. From extended Smallville moments that add emotional weight, to more screen time with Gene Hackman's delightfully scheming Lex Luthor, the expanded scenes deepen the story without ever dragging it down. And let’s talk about that score. 🎶 With the expanded cut, you get even more of John Williams’ legendary soundtrack — it practically carries you off the couch in a red cape. The audio restoration? Chef’s kiss. Every note of triumph, every swell of hope, lands harder than a speeding bullet. The effects still charm, the story still inspires, and Reeve’s Superman remains the gold standard. Watching this edition feels like being wrapped in a warm, Kryptonian blanket of heroism, idealism, and old-school movie magic. Bottom line: If you're a fan of Superman, classic cinema, or just want to feel the rush of watching a true hero take flight — this is the version to watch. Up, up, and expanded away! 💫

As a fan growing up and seeing it in the movies I can only say that the blue ray version is awesome. So glad I purchased it and recommend it to all.
