Juni 2025I know this film is somewhat controversial & it definitely tackles some pretty intense subject matter all around but I find its perspective to be so unique while simultaneously capturing the essence of 2010 so completely. The hyper violence & very time period accurate stylized quirk is juxtaposed incredibly well with the absurdity of the mundane plot to create a complex character study that has a lot to say about the culture of the time. I’m obsessed with Kevin Bacon & Liv Tyler in this film & the humor for the most part holds up incredibly well.

Unfortunately, it lacks the heart and character development of other films of its ilk (Kick Ass, Defendor, Deadpool, etc) that managed to be dark and gritty without leaving the audience feeling dirty and empty by the end.
- klit753. Dezember 2025If you're looking for a dark comedy, emphasis on the dark, and you like super heroes...look no further. This really blurs the lines between bravery and mental illness. Not a bad way to spend 90 minutes or so. I don't know much about this movie but wouldn't be surprised to find it has a strong cult status.

Im normalen Leben ist Frank das, was man landläufig als arme Sau bezeichnet würde: ein unter Depressionen und Neurosen leidender Schnellimbiss-Koch. Als seine Frau unter den Einfluss eines besonders fiesen Kleinverbrechers gerät und Frank verlässt, verschwindet auch das letzte Regulativ aus dem Leben des Verlierers. Fortan zwängt er sich allabendlich in sein mühselig zusammengeflicktes Kostüm - nicht unbedingt um Gutes zu tun und zu den Gewinnern zu gehören, sondern um endlich mal auf die Kacke zu hauen: Als Superheld "Der Blutrote Blitz" geht er unverdrossen seiner Arbeit nach. Beistand leistet ihm dabei bereitwilligst die nicht minder verstörende nymphomane Comic-Verkäuferin Libby als sein Sidekick "Blitzie".
