I wish I’d had the guts to start the band and make the silly videos and be my authentic musical self at that age. I loved this movie for their choice of time period, watching the music creativity, I loved the character of the older brother always giving the music education, and the beauty that inspired everything.

Taking place in Dublin in 1985, it's all about a boy inspired by Synth and Glam (think Depeche Mode or Duran Duran) to start his own band and chase after the girl of his dreams. "Riddle of the Model" is an absolutely spot on early Depeche Mode song, music video and all. And goddamn, "Drive It Like You Stole It" is, quite literally, a bop. Fairly light, very fun.

Irland in den Achtzigern. Vor dem Hintergrund von Rezession und Arbeitslosigkeit wächst der jugendliche Conor in Dublin auf. Als Außenseiter in der Schule gebrandmarkt, flieht er in die Welt der Popmusik und träumt nebenbei von der unerreichbaren, schönen Raphina. Seine Idee: Er lädt Raphina ein, im Musikvideo seiner Band aufzutreten. Sein Problem: Er hat gar keine Band, kann noch nicht mal ein Instrument spielen. Aber sein Plan darf auf keinen Fall scheitern. Also gründet er mit ein paar Jungs aus der Nachbarschaft kurzerhand eine Band und voller Leidenschaft schreiben sie ihre ersten Songs...
