- cultfilmlikervor 4 TagenSome Like It Cold “But to this day, I still don’t know what it all means.” I think you just accurately summed up how I feel about this film, brother Visual Insanity “I want to know what your sins taste like.” Gimme about 12 rewatches and I might have an opinion more than “It was cool and looked amazing.” A surreal blend of genres, filmmaking techniques, formats, set designs, narrative structures, etc! Technical level: 10/10 Conceptual level: ?/10 There must have been a translation error on mine bc I read, “A fart” /s Premiered last year and is already a Criterion / Janus release?? Damn. I mean it’s fitting considering its introduction looks like it’s from Germany in the 1920’s (in color!) [edit: after finishing the film, they really nailed the distribution team] Chinese Guy Maddin x A Trip to the Moon vibes early on! Mirror scene was extraordinary …..jk about all that stuff above. I get it now Truly feels like the new The Holy Mountain. An instant cult classic Watched via Letterboxd Video Store Currently Ranked #6/213 in 2025 Ranked Added to The Non-English Niche Added to Phenomenally Photogenic Films _____________ Watch #2 “It’s called reverse thinking.” Even better on a rewatch, just as you would expect after finishing it the first time. The sets, the camerawork - good god. Makeup and overall production design 👌👌👌👌 The more I think about it the more I have to begrudgingly admit it’s very Lynchian; specifically Twin Peaks: The Return (and I mean more than just the imagery!) Even more begrudgingly have to admit that it’s very Holy Motors coded Just realized M83 did the soundtrack. Mind blown. Shout out Letterboxd Video Store for not turning off my rental in the middle of the viewing even tho I’m relatively sure it technically expired _____________ Watch #2
