Amazing animation with so much style, unique characters, great music, epic backgrounds, fun action sequences, good humour and a decent plot. I had no idea it won an Oscar until I searched it up recently, definitely well deserved. This is now tempting me to replay Red Dead Redemption 2 lol. I like Westerns because they have the potential to tell endlessly fascinating and entertaining stories that reveal a lot about the human condition.

Every character is crafted with great precision, and the visuals impress with a raw, cinematic aesthetic. The film works thanks to its quick, biting gags, but its true strength lies in a clear homage to classic westerns. You can feel the spirit of Leone and Eastwood in the framing, music, pacing, and even in the characters’ gazes. The creators don’t just play with the genre; they show it genuine respect. Rango is not only great entertainment but also a love letter to genre cinema. Johnny Depp performs with a mannered charm that perfectly fits the neurotic lead. He's full of exaggeration, yet with a precise sense of tone. He brings the character a mix of lightness, oddity, and charisma that would be hard to capture without his voice.

Mai 2025If i had a nickel for every time Gore Verbinski directed a movie with Johnny Depp as the protagonist and Bill Nighy as the antagonist and it ended up being a masterpiece I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but weird it’s happened twice. Also yes I do live with the fact my favorite animated animal movie is produced by nickelodeon.

Rango, ein leicht verwirrtes Chamäleon, träumt zwar hin und wieder von einem glorreichen Heldendasein, aber eigentlich ist er viel besser in seinem Terrarium aufgehoben. Als er dann jedoch tatsächlich irgendwo im Wilden Westen ausgesetzt wird, ist das hemdsärmelige Haustier alles andere als glücklich. Durch einen glücklichen Zufall verschlägt es ihn in das Städtchen Dirt, das aussieht, als würde es direkt aus einem Spaghetti-Western stammen. Als ihm die Rolle des Sheriffs angeboten wird, darf Rango beweisen, was wirklich in ihm steckt.
