Als der zunächst unscheinbar wirkende John die Bar betritt, ahnt der Barkeeper noch nicht, was nun auf ihn zukommt. John überredet ihn zu einer Wette und verspricht ihm, die außergewöhnlichste Geschichte auf Lager zu haben, die dem Barkeeper je zu Ohren gekommen ist. Der Wetteinsatz besteht aus einer Flasche Whiskey. Bereits bei den ersten Worten von John wird dem Barkeeper klar, das er verloren hat: "Als ich ein kleines Mädchen war…" Was nun folgt, ist die traumatische Geschichte von der Kindheit, Jugend und Erwachsenenzeit Johns als Jane, die nach einer Geschlechtsumwandlung zum verbitterten, einsamen John wurde. Der Barkeeper, der einst als Zeitreise Agent tätig war, bietet seinem Gegenüber an, den Menschen ungestraft zu töten, der sein Leben ruiniert hat.

- Kevin Ward21. Januar 2026For some reason I started this film ages ago and didn’t finish. (Not because it was bad, just because I got sidetracked). I’m talking like a looong time ago. Like before I knew who Sarah Snook was That was a mistake. This was great. Love a good time travel flick and both Hawke and Snook are very good. I will say that I pretty much predicted exactly how it would play out, mostly because it telegraphs most of its punches. The “I am My Own Grandpa” needle drops are a little on the nose. But still it’s pretty satisfying to see it all play out.

As far as time travel paradoxes goes this is by far the most thought provoking and emotional tales that touches on themes like what if time travel was possible and can you change your own destiny by going back in time.

So I'm kind of glad :) I love sci-fi stuff like this and it just popped up one day and I thought I'd check it out! I love Ethan Hawke. And Sarah Snook freaked me out!
