It's 1953. Eva works as a photo editor at a newspaper, "cleaning" people arrested by the NKVD from newsreels. The line between the world of black-and-white photographs and reality is completely blurred in Eva's mind, and she can no longer tell whether she's removing people from the images who were subject to repression, or whether they're disappearing because of her manipulations.
