One of the most enjoyable things about revisiting older science fiction is seeing how filmmakers imagined the future. One Point O offers a fascinating version of tomorrow. It's a world filled with aging apartment blocks, industrial decay, analog security cameras, answering machines, rotary phones, and outdated-looking computer screens. Instead of sleek high-tech cities, it presents a future that feels worn out and left behind. It's almost cyberpunk, but never quite commits to the genre, creating a world that's both familiar and strangely believable. Visually, the film leans heavily into muted, monochromatic colors that reinforce its bleak atmosphere. Everything feels dirty, isolated, and emotionally drained, making the setting as important as the story itself. The cast is another pleasant surprise, featuring several recognizable faces who help elevate the material. The performances are consistently solid and keep the movie grounded even when the narrative becomes increasingly strange. Like many low-budget science fiction films, One Point O moves at its own deliberate pace. It can be slow, and there are moments where the story becomes confusing enough to test your patience. Fortunately, the central mystery remains intriguing enough that I wanted to see where it was headed. In the end, I enjoyed it more than I expected. No, it isn't a forgotten masterpiece. The limited budget occasionally shows, and some of its ideas could have been developed further. But it deserves credit for aiming higher than its resources would suggest. Rather than relying on action or spectacle, it builds an unsettling mood and explores ideas about technology, isolation, and control. Watching it today is almost like opening a time capsule. It's less interesting as a prediction of the future than as a snapshot of what 2004 thought the future might look like. That alone makes it worth seeing.
