Regie Robert StrombergEinst war die Hexe Malefiz eine schöne, warmherzige Frau, die in einem friedvollen Waldkönigreich lebte. Doch dann eroberte eine Armee ihr geliebtes Heimatland. Sie versuchte dieses um jeden Preis zu verteidigen, wurde dann jedoch von einem ihrer engsten Vertrauten verraten. Sie verlor demnach nicht nur ihr Heimatland an die Besatzer, sondern auch ihre Warmherzigkeit, als ihr Herz langsam zu Stein wurde. Viele Jahre später wird der Eroberer durch einen neuen Herrscher abgelöst. Malefiz sieht die Chance gekommen, ihre Heimat dessen Fängen zu entreißen und zieht gegen den neuen Herrscher zu Felde. Nachdem dieser Schachzug misslingt, belegt sie die Tochter des Herrschers Aurora mit einem Fluch. Als dieses heranwächst, erkennt Malefiz jedoch die Bedeutung Auroras - für ihr Heimatland und für sich selbst.

- Max9. November 2025Absolutely stunning. Probably the best Disney live-action adaptation, and arguably one of the best Disney films overall. This is exactly how live-action adaptations of classic fairy tales should be done. Maleficent takes an intriguing approach: what if the story of Sleeping Beauty is only how humans passed it down? What really happened? Was Maleficent truly evil? The film immerses the audience in an emotional rollercoaster — you feel her grief, her sense of betrayal, her regret, and so much more. It shines with so many new elements and great CGI while still staying true to the original story. Angelina Jolie seems born for this role. I especially love that, in the German version, she has the same voice as Regina Mills from Once Upon a Time — incredibly fitting in my opinion. The film also makes you think about what really matters in life. Is power and status everything? What do we already have that is good for us and brings us happiness? And what happens when we succumb to greed and ambition? A true masterpiece that everyone should see.

- TV21. Dezember 2025This movie reimagines Maleficent as misunderstood rather than a true villain, which feels more human and meaningful. I also love that the story shows a mother’s love, not a prince or romance, as the most powerful and genuine form of love. I love Angelina Jolie as the lead.
