- witty youngman12. Juli 2025This was fantastic. I would suggest people watch this if people know Malcolm X’s story or not. I knew of him but did not know the whole tale. It was captivating, I didn’t even mind the length (over 3 hours), because every point in his life was so important to tell. Even important to show that he visited the pyramids on his trip to Mecca—we see that he was followed by those two white men he mentions in his letters to his wife. I purposefully didn’t look up the details of his assassination and wanted to watch it unfold. BAH. Such a great movie about an important figure.

However, the film ultimately serves as a poignant tribute to a complex and often misunderstood civil rights leader, capturing the essence of his struggle and impact with powerful resonance. A special shout-out to Denzel Washington for providing one of the finest performances in movie history.

Der kleine Malcolm wächst in Detroit auf. Sein Vater ist Priester und muss sich mit dem rechtsradikalen Ku-Klux-Klan auseinandersetzen, der ihn fortwährend terrorisiert. Die Situation spitzt sich zu und Malcolms Vater wird schließlich ermordet, woraufhin seine Mutter in eine Nervenheilanstalt eingewiesen werden muss. Malcolm treibt währenddessen seine Schulbildung voran, muss aber bald feststellen, dass in den USA zu seiner Zeit bestimmte Berufe nicht für Afroamerikaner zugänglich waren. Er gerät später auf die schiefe Bahn und taucht in zwielichtige Kreise ab. Als er daraufhin verhaftet wird vollzieht er einen innerlichen Wandeln während der Haft. Er lernt den Islam kennen und legt seinen Sklavennamen Little ab und nennt sich nun Malcolm X. Wieder auf freiem Fuß treibt er eine neue Bürgerrechtsbewegung voran.
