Though, very dissatisfactory that there was no good ending, just a last ditch attempt to keep some unnecessary notion of mystery. In regards to such movie genres, the notion of a spirit roaming free from a dead body only to possess a living body is obviously impossible (theoretically) because a living body would still have it's own spirit. And if even to ponder about such magic, then of course a living body or dead body could easier reject any spirit that isn't its own. Hence why movies such as this movie are quite sloppy of its own plot and point. Potential spoiler, the name Jessabelle was what the wife actually considered of herself..

Nach einem schweren Autounfall, bei dem ihr Verlobter ums Leben gekommen ist, ist Jessabelle von der Hüfte abwärts gelähmt und fortan auf einen Rollstuhl angewiesen. Um sich zu erholen, kehrt sie in ihre Heimat Louisiana in das Haus ihres Vaters zurück. Doch nach und nach bekommt Jessabelle, die noch immer stark traumatisiert ist, den Eindruck, dass in dem alten Haus etwas nicht stimmt. Der ortsansässige Preston spendet der verstörten Frau daraufhin Trost. Eines Tages findet Jessabelle eine alte Videokassette, die ihre vor Jahren verstorbene Mutter einst für sie aufgenommen hatte. Darauf ist eine verstörende Botschaft aufgezeichnet: Ihre Mutter hatte ihr die Karten gelegt und eine Zukunft voller Schrecken vorausgesagt.
