- Patrick Wai11. Mai 2026I went in hoping for a suspenseful, scary vampire movie and instead got a sluggish marriage counseling session with fangs. The setup really is built around a minister’s wife whose vampire encounter throws a spotlight on her suffocating relationship, and even positive reviews framed it more as commentary on marriage and female frustration than as straight horror. The problem is that the vampire stuff feels less like the main event and more like a novelty prop dragged in to spice up a story about a resentful preacher’s wife and her stale husband. There are a few good elements scattered around, but the movie is too slow, the plot is too predictable, and it does not really wake up until the very end, at which point it is basically asking for credit for finally arriving at its own movie. Barbara Crampton got a lot of praise from critics, and fair enough, but for me that still was not enough to save a film that spends so much time circling the runway and so little time actually taking off. Rotten Tomatoes has it at 85 percent with critics, which honestly just made me feel like I had wandered into the wrong church basement.
